Should I Take Ballet?

by David A. Schwinghammer — Read all 17 poems by David A. Schwinghammer

A boy is conflicted about what it takes to become a man.

Saturday, December 26, 2020

Should I sport a tattoo of an eagle screeching wrapped in The Stars and Stripes or should I buy a Ford F-450 super duty truck with turbodiesel V-8 with power and torque?

Or should I read a book?

Should I get a V-Rod Harley and roar through the street scaring babies, old ladies, and nuns? Should I go out for football and be a frothing Dick Butkus blitzing on every play?

Or should I read WAR AND PEACE?

Should I pump iron and wear sleeveless shirts, showing off my six-pack on TV? Or should I climb Mt. Everest with my trusty Shirpa guide? Should I swim the English Channel with my hands tied behind my back?

Or should I write a novel?

Should I be on Shark Tank and talk tough when a guy tries to sell me socks that come in packs of three? Should I have my hair cut in a Mohawk? Should I grow a Fu Manchu and shave my head?

Or should I take ballet and be the next Baryshnikov?                                                 Mystery Writer

I don't think you're even limber enough for ballet. So I think you'd better cuddle up to a good book and write one while you're at it.

Well, David, by the process of elimination I'd say
you are ballet material. No offense.
