Weary

time has been a cruel master for our love

we lived where love had long been dismissed

vows the only tethers restraining hearts

weary with abandonment of romance

and emotions gathered about the stake

of disillusionment and disrespect too

long we tortured our hearts with hope

that never materialized in abusive

relationships where mental anguish gave

us daily scars not visible as lashes upon

our bodies yet the pain exceeded the

physical as we were mentally drained

of the precious pemmican sustenance

only honest love and passion can nurture
