Baby, Why Did You Have to Go?

For an ex boyfriend who broke me into pieces.

It was a cold September day, I hardly have the words to say,

"Baby why did you have to go? Baby will I ever get to know?"

You didn't tell me that you were going to leave, you didn't even bother to turn around.

'Stead you're just going on with your life.. while I'm going through all this strife.

I thought we had a fairy tale, God why did it have to fail?

I gave you everything, I hardly got a simple letter each day.

All this silence made up our past, maybe it wasn't meant to last.

Still, baby why did you have to go? Baby will I ever get to know?

Still that yesterday brings back memories, when I found her head on your shoulder.

Her smile was so real, yours shining like the sun.

Tell me, did you ever smile like that when you were with me? Oh, why did you have to leave?

I called you up on the telephone, all I got was a simple groan.

Were you like this all along? Or were you frightened to be alone?

And baby why did you have to go? Baby will I ever get to know?

You said you couldn't say it right to my face, all you had was an empty embrace.

I wasn't the girl for you, how I hoped that was so not true .

You were not the boy for me, still I gave you everything.

All those smiles we once exchanged, all those laughs I wouldn't trade.

All those whispers we had given, all the passion we had shared.

Sometimes I miss your lips kissing me, but then I think back upon my misery.

Always waiting for the lights to flash, always knowing it wasn't meant to last.

Baby why did you have to go? Baby will I ever get to know?

I was willing to give my whole life to you, I was willing to make a start with you.

Still, you didn't tell me you were going to leave, you didn't even bother to turn around.

To this day I look back and say, "Did he really love me enough, to stay?"

these moments in time seem to last way to long but they do pass and we do heal

How absolutely heartbreaking, but sometimes things just happen. Look to the future and see the bright light of a new life where once again you will be surrounded in love, smiles and laughter...

Be always safe,
Karen

This is a sadly too common theme in this life/world, Kathryn. I can imagine your words being in a song. I find what you express very compelling and soul-reaching. Love and best wishes to you,

Regis
