The Yuppie Song
He walks out of work
With a purpose to his step
What his walk doesn’t say
Surely won’t damage his rep
He gets to his Saab
And forgets his alarm
He’s one of the many
So there is no real harm
He drives 9.3 miles
To his suburban abode
His 2.3 kids greet him
It’s a sight to behold
The amenities of life
Are there for the take
It helps to be rich
Or to wish for God’s sake
He has stock in the market
And a portfolio to grow
He can’t survive by his wits
Cause it’s only for show
Being a Yuppie these days
Is all in the act
Be certain of all
And ignore all the facts
Commit to your work
And pretend you’re alive
Being a Yuppie isn’t easy
Until you’ve arrived
Ignore all the people
Who belong below you
You’re financial statement
Will ring loud and true
Complain about service
It’s the only thing to do
Money can’t buy everything
It’s sad but it’s true
Got a college fund
For Mindy and Bartholomew
At 50 grand a year
An education they’re due
As upstanding citizens
Of the communities
The Yuppies all rule
It’s what God said shall be
My father was right
When he said to me
The almighty buck
Determines what we will be
Well if a buck rules our fate
I see no allure
For to be a Yuppie
I’d rather be poor
Complain about taxes
As people starve in the streets
Find a loophole fast
Keep the poor downbeat
Be always safe,
Karen
