Some very good advice, especially for those young people who are technology savvy but not savvy about what it takes to get work in the IT industry. Also great for people who have lost their IT jobs through obsolescence and need to refresh their skills in order to move into new fields.
On the other hand, although I have several certifications, I've found that in order to be a IT professional, one needs to have an overall understanding of many things involving computing that this over specialization and reliance on tests learned by memorizing the answers may get one a job, but does not move the industry forward. What I'm trying to say is being able to pass a technical test does not make one an IT innovator. Rather, it makes one a person who follows the lead of others when it comes to IT development. I doubt if Steve Jobs and Bill Gates ever got certified in anything.
