Beatrice and the Beast (Book) - 7/18/2022 3:17:33 PM
Thank you Ken Coleman for a wonderful read. "Beatrice And The Beast" has so much to offer the reader. If you love the Old American West, you will love this book. It has a good story line, suspense, love, and an authentic mirror into that time in history. Mr. Coleman is masterful at dialogue and building characters, the characters are alive and real. When I read a book, even more than plot or setting, the characters are paramount to my enjoyment. Without believable characters and good dialogue I feel like I am wasting my time reading the book. Mr. Coleman excels with both. Reading this novel was certainly not a waste of my time. I enjoyed it thoroughly. I highly recommend "Beatrice And The Beast".
The Star Girls (Book) - 3/10/2019 2:48:55 PM
The Star Girls is an exciting story that brings forth many aspects of what life was like for the Cheyenne and the settlers. Lives change in a heartbeat and often violently. This well written novel is populated with intriguing characters who face life threatening situations. They all share remarkable survival skills as well as a sense of loyalty. Carefully plotted and filled with colorful witty dialogue, The Star Girls is well worth reading.
I received a complimentary copy of this book through AuthorsDen. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.
The Star Girls (Book) - 7/27/2018 3:37:03 PM
This is a great book. It's easy to get threw and it's a page turner as well.
The Star Girls (Book) - 1/1/2018 10:33:56 AM
The Star Girls begins with a tragedy that is promptly forgotten as the characters are introduced and the story is woven. The characterizations are rich and deep giving the reader feelings of intimacy with the protagonists and a strong dislike of the antagonists. There is plenty of visualization provided, and the story never bogs down. The setting and times provide for action and danger as the author takes the reader through to the perfect ending. A thoroughly enjoyable read.
Revenge of a Devil Woman (Book) - 12/7/2017 1:34:36 PM
Was excited to read a story with such a strong damaged lead character. I felt the heavy use of adjectives almost took away from the story line but the author seemed to level off and it made it a smoother read. I enjoyed the graphic realistic violence and felt it was warranted from the characters. I felt the end was rushed yet followed the natural conclusion given the experiences of the characters. A bit of suspended belief related to the weather and demographic. Overall an excellent story and the lead is fascinating.
The Star Girls (Book) - 12/12/2016 6:01:06 AM
I like stories like this. Something that actually happened. The short excerpt left me wondering if the Cheyenne brave was going to provide her with an Indian dress so that she looked more like the maiden that he pictured.
Regardless of her boots, wading in knee-deep water would probably fill them with water and make it very difficult for her to walk, as well as very cold.

Lovely spoken poem to your beloved.
Her wedding dress could even be worn today for a wedding.
Love is what you both had from the beginning and that is what
prevailed your 60 years of marriage. Congratulations to both of you.

Cheating Girl. (Amusing. Smutty) (Poetry) - 7/17/2019 9:45:32 AM
Obviously stalking. Otherwise, how would he be right there, observing what was happening, when the couple had certainly found a quiet place to do the deed. I have heard of people doing it on the beach and getting a bit of sand rash, but this is the first time I've heard of stimulation by nettle, something I'm sure is quite a boost… Similar to an electric fence.
That's it! A short story depicting a couple doing it and having the guy stretch his hand back into an electric fence. The jolt going through his body and into hers. Causing immediate muscle contraction, including her jaw muscles. So the result would be more than a shock!
Love your style of poetry. Let's see some more… This time with pictures?

Life and wife (Poetry) - 3/20/2019 9:20:06 AM
You need to place your poems under humor, because you always give me a chuckle. In this case with that last line, a zinger. I've been so fortunate not to have children and all their troubles. For three years while I was married, I had to put up with a teenage princess stepdaughter who wanted to sabotage our marriage and when she succeeded, became remorseful and sided with me!
You're right. Surviving life ain't easy. But I'm trying to figure out why so many of my contemporaries who have survived, now want to go back to the bad old days of the 50s as though it was some kind of paradise? They should be more philosophical, like you.

I love your magnificent ass (Poetry) - 3/16/2019 12:07:23 PM
So good to read you again, Ken. But I disagree… This poem may be poetry, but it clearly needs to be placed in the genre of comedy, because I couldn't help laughing as I read it. Your comedy gift is always appreciated here.

A New Year's Eve from Hell (Poetry) - 1/18/2018 2:00:10 AM

Swimming with my clothes on (Poetry) - 12/26/2017 7:59:46 AM
A great metaphor for the political climate of today. While the very rich get richer and pileup heavy weighing possessions, much of society is going underwater with bills exceeding their meager incomes.

Women , that says it all. when will we ever learn?
A Soldier's Lament (Poetry) - 10/26/2016 4:36:35 AM
Truly horrific, and writ like epics of old ... and perhaps an echo of some Greek or Nubian lament reverberating down our centuries. How often has war killed love ...
A Soldier's Lament (Poetry) - 10/20/2016 2:42:44 PM
A poignant and hard hitting look at the horrors of war and its devastating consequences...
You write with convincing knowledge and personal experience...
War has and always will be horrific...
When will this someone start listening and thinking of non violent alternatives to solve difficult situations....?
Diana....
A Soldier's Lament (Poetry) - 10/5/2016 7:46:15 AM
Written with a sense that you have experienced the horror of war up close and personal.
I am watching a series called, Under Fire, with actual footage taken in a compound in a valley in Afghanistan. The place is very well provisioned and protected, but constantly under attack from the nearby mountains. It makes me wonder why we would invest so much money to build a place like that where the occupants are playing Russian roulette every time they step into the open for a breath of fresh air. And, some times when a rocket hits, there is no place safe there at all.
Your poem tells us that war is hell. When are our world leaders going to learn that.
Ron
A Soldier's Lament (Poetry) - 10/4/2016 7:56:36 PM

A Soldier's Lament (Poetry) - 10/4/2016 12:27:14 PM

Moody Cow (Poetry) - 2/16/2016 11:51:27 AM
Heh.Heh True love . . . I do believe I would gag her, tie her hands and feet behind her back . . . Tenderly kiss her forehead, put her in a large metal box and send her off to somewhere in Pakistan . . . Fictitious return address.

Whose Dream is it Anyway (Poetry) - 2/14/2016 11:20:51 AM
You are one of the best poets I read, and this one is no exception to that sterling rule. You leave little room for misinterpretation, but lots of room for thought.
Funny, I just told my partner of a semi erotic dream that I had last night that didn't seem to fit my life at all. She was in it and an instigator. In the end, I conclude that the other two, rather erotic individuals, were actually my two nighttime caregivers… Not erotic at all. Or are they? ;-)

Slob (Poetry) - 2/13/2016 10:55:59 AM
You sure know how to write a situation into a smashing poem that affects so many, unfortunately. At first I thought you were going to write from a woman's point of view. That spirit dangerous so I'm glad you wrote from the point of view of so many guys that I've known. What a shame!

The condition of many marriages these days. It seems that the reasons why we are drawn to one another come apart when things get tough, and not what the romantic notion we got married for expected.

A Tribute to the Ladies (Poetry) - 1/9/2016 11:06:16 AM
I kept chuckling as I read as though you read their minds. The fact that I will never "shrivel up," nearly blows their minds. But the rest of it is true blue. I did sense a bit of the old "blueness" in this that will probably get it banned. ;-)

The Ballad of Georgy Blue (Poetry) - 10/21/2015 10:33:39 AM
I loved this finely written story even though the crippled boy had to die. Your stanza's resounded with darkness and death, until the end. No light of hope fill the story except when the lady was rescued. A true-to-life wonderful, if sad, story!

Child of Smoke (Poetry) - 1/8/2015 1:52:47 PM
A nice write with a very important message. Both of my parents smoked, and I have no clue as to how much second hand smoke I inhaled. You could scrape the nicotine stains off of the windows and walls. My dad died from lung cancer. I don't know how I avoided samoking cigs, I guess I never got past the getting sick stage. I consider myself lucky.
Michael D.
Child of Smoke (Poetry) - 1/8/2015 11:23:38 AM
You certainly don't mince words. But I really like what you write. It seems like young people make serious mistakes with their lives as though it were some kind of "freedom" or rebellion from their poor upbringing. Anyway, if they were brought up poorly, they tend to repeat the same mistakes their parents made, a never-ending cycle of dysfunction.
Ron

Raven's Wings (Fantasy) (Poetry) - 11/26/2014 8:30:25 AM
A form of epic proportions. With one hell of a twisted ending! I really liked reading the rhyming and cadence. All the while the story was forming into something delightful to read.
I do hope you can overcome the formatting problem. I believe I've suggested possible solutions in the Roundtable. I think it's quite easy to overcome the problem. Just try different approaches, like pasting special from the original source to the editor or turn the editor off before you paste.

I'll show you mine if you show me yours. (Poetry) - 11/21/2014 8:32:04 AM
Opposites attract. Sometimes they just can't get together. I recall the times I had crushes on some of the so-called "bad" girls around. Never followed through, though. And really bad luck with "good" girls in the process. Life is strange, like your wonderful poem shows.
