Give me that old time religion (Article) - 1/5/2010 5:29:07 PM
I concur heartily with this. Really, if we all just pitched in and looked out for one another, then other than a few absolute common necessities, there would be no need for taxes. I "get" and understand some people's desire to use government to take care of the sick, the poor, etc., but behold the possibilities when Christ-like charity is involved!
I spent a good while in Peru as a missionary, and it was amazing to me how giving the people were--people who had next to nothing and lived under a piece of tin held up with a few cement blocks! We're spoiled rotten with excess, and too unwilling to give it up. However, when we do, there is a high greater than any drug could give you that lasts forever! I believe we just need a little nudge to remind us--to teach us to share it, and THAT is what will bring the good old US economy back into place.
Well written, good reminder of the meaning of true love. --Charlie

Your write is a reminder for us, especially during the holidays when being without is more magnified. I also think of these classic verses:
James 2 (KJV)
15 If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,
16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?

Carol - Enjoyed your meditation on life and the analogy to the Mayfly. Though they live only for a day, still it is the length of a life.

Help Them Now (Poetry) - 3/18/2010 8:16:24 AM
I have to tell you and have told anyone who would listen and some who didn't want to, but if, when a man molests a child, not necessarily would he have to kill them, he should be executed, never mind if they actually kill them. We are far too lenient on these sick-minded people. I say sick-minded, because they have to be to do what they do, but I do NOT mean they are insane and I DO believe they know what they are doing and they know it is wrong, but the do it anyway. Shame on our society.
Who Knew? (Poetry) - 2/13/2010 12:10:37 PM
Dear Carol, first, I feel sorry that I did not visit your den earlier. In this poem you express very nicely the goodness of your heart towards your friend that you met a long time ago. It is very nice to keep a friendship alive. I myself am still connected with friends of over sixty-five years, both alive and passed. I am always delighted to speak on the phone with those alive, although thousands of miles separate us, and remembering those who passed on. The latter always need our love and our prayers. Love Emile

Who Knew? (Poetry) - 2/9/2010 8:25:08 PM
I felt this way when I turned 51, Grace--the age my sister died of leukemia. Is this your mother? I interpreted it as such and a lump came to my throat--as my mother can't be long for this world. Will I remember her voice? So softly mournful...

Carol, I assume that this was written for your mom. Beautiful work that touches the heart.
Who Knew? (Poetry) - 2/3/2010 1:32:48 PM
If this is about your mother, Carol, then it is sublimely beautiful and a true testimony of her legacy to you. We are ALWAYS who we are in relationship to our familys, no matter our age and circumstance. You are always her little girl and she your Mom. Your feelings are therefore very natural and on-going. But, as I'm finding myself, the beauty is that in many ways we BECOME them, in terms of how often we develop genetically and psychologically. I would never have believed this until experiencing it for myself. But day after day now I look in the mirror and in every way it is my mother staring back at me... even temperamentally I'm becoming like her. A lovely contemplation and outpouring. So bittersweet. Thank you. xx

Who Knew? (Poetry) - 2/3/2010 7:40:49 AM
I am assuming these poems of late are not merely poems, but heartache within. I used to have people tell me for years and years to leave the past in the past. It took me a long time before I was able to do that. I wish for you that it doesn't take as long as it did for me.
Who Knew? (Poetry) - 2/3/2010 5:54:37 AM

your pain for missing this person comes through loud and strong. I don't know if it was a dear friend, family member, no matter, your words tell all. Very well done.

Who Knew? (Poetry) - 2/3/2010 5:26:08 AM
Carol, this is a heart-touching poem. My Mom, too, is gone nearly 35 years. The thought of seeing her again is a comfort, and I think I will know her voice as soon as I hear it, even if we are not face-to-face. I'll turn and say, "Mom?" and give her the biggest hug! I recognize her in myself in a lot of ways, too.
I read a bit of your writing on the last site you listed on your bio page. (why can't I think of the name now?) It's a very nice site with great content!

Wise, wise words you have penned, my friend. It is a matter of life itself that we come to these kinds of conclusions, if we are luckky and can look at life in a real sense. It took me so many years of self-doubt and other inner problems, but at the end of last summer I finally lay my burden to rest. I have never been happier in my long life. To say that this poem reached out to me would be putting it mildly.

Very well said, I just cannot write about this New Year yet, I am still mulling some things over in my mind and my heart just isn't into a New Year just yet. Soon though, someday soon I will accept the inevitable, the beginning of another year of struggle and dealing with people who just don't get it. A soul just gets tired of always being upbeat.
Much peace, love, and light,

You just need a different bait. Nicely done, Carol.
Less than Reality (Poetry) - 10/15/2009 11:32:24 AM
Carol, after the second line in the third stanza, the last line becomes redundant. If it were me (I know it's not), I'd eliminate the third line altogether. If you want to keep the three line stanza, break the second.
Always keep the screen door locked (Poetry) - 10/15/2009 11:27:10 AM
I don't think there'll be rejoicing once she gets inside. It gives such a neat peek into the minds of children.
That's just the way it was (Poetry) - 10/15/2009 6:37:00 AM
I appreciate your comments. I'm afraid I sometimes take poetic license in my work and do not always stick to the facts. I am aware that the motto "In God we Trust" did not come into being until the Civil War, and only appeared on our monetary units periodically from that time until adopted as a permanent change by Congress in the 1950's. However, the idea of in God we trust was certainly present when our Founding Fathers penned the Constitution of the United States, and as a Christian I believe the reason we have been blessed by a nation is two-fold--first, for most of our 233 years the majority of the United States has been faithful to God, and secondly, we have stood by Israel since her birth as a nation in 1948.
Unfortunately, we have become lapsed Christians where God is no longer at the forefront of our lives and now our government is beginning, for the first time, to pull away from Israel. The sentiment of my poem addresses these issues, not with historical facts, but by reminding people that our country used to be so much more and if we do not return to the God of our Fathers, the faith of our Fathers, we will not prevail.
Here I go again. Lori, I hope I have not offended. My faith and my politics are so intermingled I have a great deal of difficulty separating the two. Have a great and blessed day.
Carol
That's just the way it was (Poetry) - 10/15/2009 6:03:36 AM
"Until this year I thought the Nobel Prize was awarded
for excellence achieved, not dreams conceived--
I thought praise was reserved for good that was done
not good that was undone--
I thought honor was given for bravery on the front
not cowardice in the back rooms of Congress--
I thought unity was the backbone of America,
and “In God we trust” was the foundation--
when did these things change?"
Though it would probably be different if most of us on AD were on the Nobel committee, the Nobel has often been awarded based on what might be done. Most Americans simply don't pay close enough attention to it to know. Perhaps we assume too much. America has never been a unified nation. Just look at the state votes in 1788 concerning the ratification of the constitution. So, in a way "these" things never were nationwide... they simply existed in the hearts of good individuals such as yourself. I hope you are able to have that conversation with your grandchildren. I agree with your sentiments and enjoyed the poem, but I think most Americans need a good history lesson.

Malice in Wonderland (Poetry) - 10/9/2009 8:33:12 AM
I can feel the frustration in this. Job's friend spoke on and on and on to hear themselves talk. The ultimate good was in believing God. Remember, the only news you see is 'sensational news.' The good news happens, but is not trumpeted from the mountain.
If I could turn back time (Poetry) - 10/9/2009 8:29:06 AM

The Journey Always Takes You Home (Poetry) - 8/2/2009 7:10:37 PM
Beautifully done, Carol. It reminds me of the wise saying that is true in every circumstance: "This too, shall pass."
Walking with a purpose (Poetry) - 8/2/2009 5:19:19 PM
A fascinating journey in self-examination. I like the fresh determination as your walk resumes. What lies ahead? Life is full of surprises, so expect many changes to come. Remember the lines from the old song, "Put your hand in the hand of the One who stilled the water........" He will help you walk on that straight path.

Walking with a purpose (Poetry) - 8/1/2009 8:29:45 AM
I love this, Carol! Well said. I often ponder decisions of the past that would have been life-changing had I made them differently. If I could go back, would I? The decisions I've made have made me the person that I am, and I'm happy with who I am.

I Should Have Told You (Poetry) - 7/29/2009 11:12:53 AM
THE PHRASES AND IMAGERY IN THIS PIECE IS OUTSTANDING AS THE AUTHOR DEPICTS ONE FILLED WITH FEELINGS OF DEEP REGRET...AND LAMENTING ALL THE 'OPPORTUNITIES SCORNED' TO SAY WHAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN SAID SO LONG AGO, THUS, WITH FINAL BREATH...SAYS IT NOW. EXCELLENT. THANKS FOR SHARING AND BLESSINGS. JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS

The Back of the Bus was Full (Poetry) - 6/9/2009 6:43:29 PM
Seems like forever ago-half a century. You can enact laws but to change men's hearts takes a generation(or more). Ignorance doesn't seem to have a shelf-life. The message is particulary potent through the eyes of a child. We arn't born with prejudice. It is learned. Fine poem, Carol...

The power of our pride has been broken. Can we put the pieces back together again? Hope so and hopefully we can learn from those whose greed overcame justice and loyalty. Excellent write, Carol!

Oh this brings memories of my honeymoon. We were serenaded by these creatures at Sun-Moon Lake. You've captured the almost overwhelming intensity of their sound and have shed light on the mystery also. I love the dramatic unfolding of this write. Almost like a miniature film with stunning visuals! Publication was certainly well-earned. Kudos, Carol...
