Had to read this book in one sitting as I just could not put it down. The characters are wonderful and the description of flora and fauna is some of the best I have ever read. I am ready for the sequel. This is a terrific first book!

Just my type of book. Exactly the right time in history and a good mix of characters. I would vote for a family movie made from this book.
