It is amazing to follow the character and grow together with her."Friendship, growing up, God, and real dreams..." - it sounds like the most important paths of our lives, with God at the centre of it and winding roads constantly leading us towards Him. What a valuable and charming book for children and teenagers! You did a fine job, Joyce. Your characters were well-developed and very true to life. Your dialogue is expertly written.

This book is one that is sprinkled with biblical truth and faith in Christ. The author is extremely creative in presenting this novel with various characters who emerge as willing participants in the taking of the lives of others. The author shows her wonderful imagination in the plots and plans devised by those who seek to kill others for the sake of money. I was impressed with the unfolding of events and the different characters that entered into the story. Everything in the book shows the significant talent of the writer. This book would make a great movie. I encourage others to read it, they will not be disappointed.

The excerpt is really too short to get a full view of the book except that I think that it's about what young people should be concerned with… What they will do after high school. I think that waiting until the senior year may be a bit late for young people to get serious about college.

Such a beautifully written and meaningful story that could be of any time in the past 50 years. It reveals the deep-seated bigotry and racism that still prevails in backward corners of our society that is somehow still accepted even after all these years since the civil rights revolution attempted to overthrow Jim Crow.
So beautifully written in fact, the story is already a screenplay for a short film. And it deserves to be published in a national magazine so that it will get the readership that is so rightly deserves. I rank Looking for Mr. Beasley equivalent or even better than The Color Purple.
It is genetically within us to be attracted to opposites, because it strengthens the gene pool. Primitive tribes have always known that and would seek marriage from other tribes, to strengthen their progeny. To make marriage with opposites impossible is to dilute the gene pool. I was so glad to see that the royal family of England with its long incestuous relationship with the monarchy of Europe, last Saturday finally abandoned that history in a wonderful wedding between opposites that are so compelling as to exclaim, "Why not!" And sing loudly, "Hallelujah!"

You know you've read a good story when you start to tear up while reading. While I never got to experience the old South, I certainly have felt the cold stares when my blue eyes were accompanied by those of another color. Crude, cold remarks often followed… Best ignored as ignorance.
Unfortunately, media today has done a good job putting fear in every mother's mind. No mother today would allow her girl child to sit on a stranger man's lap, no matter how innocent looking or what uniform he may have worn. And that's a shame.

A lovely article. Mary had virtually no chance of saying no, not because God is outside of time, but because Mary was without the stain of original sin. I would like to point out that as Catholics, we do not worship Mary. But at the same time, she is the perfect prayer partner. There is holistic reference in the Bible to Mary, from Genesis with the enmity of the snake and the woman, to the Woman Dressed in the Sun of Revelation 12, and much in between. Books have been written. Most skip over her response to Elizabeth (called the beautiful Magnificat prayer) containing a prophecy of “all generations will call me blessed”. The Hail Mary fulfills that prophecy. She was given as mother, at the foot of the cross to John, not just as ‘family business’. She is the mother of the Church and all Christians. I leave you with her final words in the Bible, “Do whatever He tells you.”

I found this to be a Christ-centered, Biblical view of two contemporary sins. The one, rooted in the desire to follow one's feelings and physical urgings, not matter where they may lead, the other, rooted in the well intended desire to help the lost, using unloving methods of reaching that goal. I think this article was written VERY well, and I pray that it continues to be widely read and heeded.

Yours is an honest, and honorable response to sexual orientation. Those who like to judge others are encroaching on a role that they are neither qualified nor entitled to take ("judge ye not, lest ye be judged." Matt 5-7.) Recent research (2017) shows at least some homosexuality takes place in the womb stemming from the lack of a critical protein in the mother (NLGN4Y). Currently, scientists hypothesize that 15 to 29 percent of all male homosexuality is linked to this deficiency. The percentage is also expected to rise as more becomes known about it. My limited experience with this subject also suggests it is mostly biological in nature, and not a choice. I watched my homosexual nephew grow up from birth to age 33 before he died. I and others saw all the obvious signs of his orientation. We also saw a beautiful and honorable young man who was loved by nearly all who knew him. Thanks for your intelligent article.

I find your stand on homosexuality most benevolent and magnanimous. It's a complicated business and truth to tell, there is still very little understanding regarding the origins and impulses of human sexuality, whether it be those of heterosexuals or homosexuals. According to scripture, heterosexuality is basically condoned (within certain limits) and homosexuality is condemned. And yet it could be said that not all heterosexual experience is right (sex out of wedlock, divorce, etc) and not all homosexual experience is wrong (unless a faithful and trusting love can be deemed wrong). Research on human sexuality is inconclusive on the subject of choice. Does a heterosexual choose to be son; does a homosexual choose to be so? In the mystery of the primal (and primordial) sex drive probably lies the answer.

While I find homosexuality rather strange and wonder why anyone would want to engage in such a lifestyle, I have always respected those who chose the lifestyle even if some of their practices bother me. Either we get along, or we are at each other's throats in endless threats and punishments, sometimes greater than any deed done. I'm for peace in everyone's existence and shy away from accusation, threats or violence against consenting behavior between people of all stripes.
I am firmly heterosexual and have never engaged in any experimenting with homosexuality. But I do have friends and next-door neighbors who are homosexual on a purely friendship basis. To those who use the Bible to back their hatred, I say, "Open up your mind to other possibilities, get educated, and stop doing the wrong thing thinking it's right when it isn't. All you have to do is tell yourself, 'What would Jesus do.'"

I agree. Republicans are behaving like sore losers, childish. While it was very disturbing when Al Gore won the national vote in 2000, only to lose the electoral vote based on that outdated and archaic principal in the original Constitution, often gerrymandered to provide benefit to one party or another, while challenging the result, Gore responsibly conceded.
The same thing happened 2016 when Hillary Clinton, faced with terrible false and derogatory rumors about her and following her advice to use her own server, actually safer than the one used by the State Department, to keep both personal and State Department correspondence, graciously, but reluctantly, like women have often had to do, conceded. Barack Obama then graciously handed over the administration to Donald Trump.
In this section I am seeing the same rumors and innuendo about Democrats that has never been true used by these disappointed conservatives that the electoral system that they gerrymandered has backfired on them and they now need to switch to other tactics like voter fraud. But there is no voter fraud. Just like there are no conspiracies. No plans to turn our government into a socialist or communist one. We heard that before in the 1950s.
Continue to spread the good news. That reasonable people follow the rules and know when they have lost without using dirty tricks other nonsense to try to turn the tide.

Merry Christmas Joyce, you bring up the BEST THINGS our SAVIOR has to offer. He offers us HOPE in the midst of darkness and despair. We don't need to think that He is merely another rich King sitting on a throne. Why? Because He was born in an impoverished stable. Our Savior knows what it's like to be without. He has been there and done that! So we can really see the MIRACLE from the little baby in the manger because He knew what poverty was like but still, He overcame it and He did so very well! What are the chances of this occurring? A little baby in a stable becomes the most recognized person in the past and present world! It is truly a marvel to wonder how could this little child bring about so much JOY to the world? All I can say to all that wonder is, "Jesus LOVES you" and "He is waiting for YOUR LOVE in return." That's a LOVE that will bring about "Eternal Happiness" so who would say "no" to a gift that will last forever? If we come to Jesus like a little child and accept the wonder that He can even exist in such a dark and dreary world we will get over ourselves and get on with a life full of possibilities that are limitless beyond our imagination. It seems that every pollster picked Hilary by a wide margin. And she won the actual vote by about 3 million. Even rigging and Gerrymandering and cheating would be hard put to overcome such a huge deficit for Trump. Sam Wang, the Princeton Consortium whiz who called every state correctly in 2012 missed the last election by a mile. How come? History will almost certainly show that Putin and his puppets knew exactly who to target and how. They focused their misdirectionings in the 5 states that swung the electoral vote count to Trump. God does not ordain cheats, liars, thugs, and disgraceful beings to high office so they can rape, rob, pillage--and pardon--whomever they please. Trump is destined for the dung heap of history, to live in disgrace and dishonor for a very long time. This is one that even you cannot sugar-coat JMS.

A wrenching account, a poetic story, of your assessment of what probably may have happened.
Given the history of black/white relationships over the years, it is very plausible the way you told it. I think it will come out in time and one of those conspirators will eventually admit what really happened.
It reminded me of the black/police situation. Where, when a policeman makes a rash decision to shoot an innocent black person, how they will band together and come up with a storing that will protect the officer that did it. It's happened so many times, like the mistaken identification of people and lineups.

There are far too many of these awful stories with recurring themes of racial disparity in death investigations, social media scrutiny, and the escalating distrust in official narratives. Another that comes to mind is Tamla Horsford. A black mother of five who was found dead in her backyard after an adult sleepover with seven other women. Certainly Nolan's story has become a catalyst for broader conversations about race, trust, and justice in the United States. Thank you for your heartfelt insight into this tragedy. Kind regards. Ashes to ashes, dust to dust. Most of our body's elements came from exploding stars.
What the Bible called chaos, has been evolution reaching higher and higher levels until about 1 million years ago, the first human like people walked the Earth.
But they were afraid. Their world was much more dangerous than ours. Tribal elders passed on by demonstration and word-of-mouth ways of doing things and ways of alleviating fear.
One of the myths has the idea of a single woman like God (in my image) that was in charge of everything and created man/woman different from the animals.
But we are not. Young animals are open and friendly like young children. But when they learn that being open like that is possibly dangerous, they stop.
You are one of the children of God. Only open to God, but not open to freeing yourself from this myth that has such a hold on much of the people. Simply because it's an ancient story of lessons of morality. Not because it's right. God can't make you moral. You have to do it yourself. Love people not God.

Payback or revenge can be like unforgiveness. And though all of us are guilty at times, especially me, I have learned that if you hold onto it, or entertain it, it eats at you and keeps those wounds fresh that would otherwise have healed if we would have dealt with them the correct way. I confess, I've acted on revengeful payback several times in my life and it did not turn out well. Some things I had to learn the hard way. Thankfully, no wrong deed escapes God's notice. He may seem silent for a period, but He does not forget. The cries of the oppressed reach His ears. As far as I'm concerned: these are two of the most important things in our lives. His Will. And our faith. For faith is not a vague idea or a blind leap in the dark. It is something very real and grounded, and holds even when everything else feels uncertain. Like it is in the world now.

I believe you're right about the end of the day when our cares go away, and we go to sleep and dream.
So that's where I get all those beautiful dream stories? Some of them highly sexual, but pleasing, not abusive at all.
I only remember two prayers. The one they call the lord's prayer, and the one that my mother taught me at a very young age.
That prayer was not calm at all, but rather grim. The kind that fearful mothers in the past taught their children to protect them from evil that we hardly have anymore today, except our kids getting on the Internet and committing suicide or not getting their childhood vaccinations.
Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray the lord my soul to keep.
If I should die before I wake,
I pray the lord my soul to take.
Young children back then often died of disease, starvation or the cold. More often than now from violence.

If religion is an opiate, you can certainly soothe all of the uncertainty and unwelcome pain that life normally throws at us by focusing on religious ritual like praying.
I normally sleep well except when I have an itch I can't scratch or an internal feeling that is causing my mind/body to react in an unfortunate way keeping me awake. The simple act of just turning to the other side (not turning the other cheek) can cause the irritation to go away.

Early humans revered the sun because it was their source of warmth and life. Certain individuals, who plotted the course of the sun, like the druids and many other cultures around the planet, used it to predict and gain power among their fellows. They became the priests and prophets that kings and queens used to have power over the people.
There is strong evidence, especially from Egypt, where the Jews and the Egyptians identify the sun with God. Thereby making God, the bringer of light. Actually just the sun raised to the level of religion.

In the clash of religious fervor, Israeli are trapped in a wild kingdom of their own design, fighting off an alien landscape all around.
While the people of Gaza are packing everything they cherish and evacuating before they die among the 65,000 who already have lost their lives with Israel's army systematically destroying everything they've ever had, including their lives.
Will everything be alright for either of them?

I wish your daughter well and improving health. It was my mother's three many strokes in 2011 gradually made her life more difficult. Before that she got around the computer very well I was doing things with it that I didn't try.
My computer to make my poem started to act up today and delayed my getting my poem to my website in here about three hours. I hope I don't have to buy another computer.

Most women come to that point. I've known women in their 40s who had to run. You remind me of my mother, who held out for a very long time. I'm glad you shared it with us in good humor.
After my surgery when I was 20, and they took my indwelling catheter out, I couldn't go. So they put it back in for another few days. The second time worked and I was able to go normally again. But from that time forward, I couldn't hold it. And found myself pulling off the highway many times to find a tree to hide behind.
And I urinated quite often as it increased and made it more difficult during my professional life until I started using an external catheter and leg bag in 1993 at work. As I write this, I have run to the pan about six times today and average about 20 times a day. It's just second nature with me. After so long.

We have here a universal conundrum, knowledge vs. free will. Perhaps the word "preordained" is getting in the way here. No one like to think that things are preordained, therefore, there is no point to anything that we do. But there is an alternative understanding. Our destiny is lived within the context of a fixed time, a destiny that although it may be in the knowledge of God, is still willed by the human entity. In much the same way that the mother knows what the child will do (in most cases), the child still ends up doing what it wants. Anyway, it's worth thinking about and trying to come to an understanding of the possibilities.

I'm sorry, Joyce. My destiny was not preordained. If it was, I would not try to do better, because the outcome had already been determined.
Everything that I do, every day, is not predetermined. The paths I take every day result in the outcome at the end of the day when I go to bed and sleep well most nights. I try not to harm people in my actions the day before. The Golden Rule works for me and determines my destiny. And the Golden Rule did not come from your god almighty.
There is great danger in following a god almighty like our current United States president.

Last night, in a dream, former president Obama spoke to me of the many reasons why he detested the current president. Stating actions that he knew would happen long before the man was picked by the far right to take the country back into Jim Crow territory for all the "losers" unfit to share in the American dream.
Why, even though he had to go to his close friend, Jimmy Carter's funeral, could barely stand it when the despicable man was there making a show of his presence.

So many blacks have fallen into the realm of mammon these days taking advantage of all the privileges offered to them, thinking that the new master will get them more. They helped vote the master in.
So many have forgotten or never learned the lesson that you and I learned during the civil rights movement when the dogs and water hoses were unleashed on innocent souls just trying to make a point about discrimination, subtle or not.
I'm with you and your poem. While the master sells Bibles with his signature on them for profit. As another tool in making Christians believe that he is a devout Christian rather than what he really is, power and money hungry.

We are all faced with mood changes. It is part of our DNA and part of our flee or fight mentality when we are faced with any kind of threat.
Just yesterday, my partner, flew into anger when she saw that her credit card that she used to make two donations were doubled when she saw them at her bank. I couldn't console her, but I asked her to call the charities and ask how much they charged in each case and if they doubled it, to drop one. Instead, she called the bank. Fortunately, because this was an urgent matter and it was a business account, she got someone on the phone quite quickly.
What happened was she saw the charges on her credit card and then the same charge on her account. It wasn't double charging, but just one on her credit card and the other, the same charge, on her account balance. She hadn't used the card or the account for a long time and there was only the one charge shown for each charity. Much to do about nothing, although she was greatly relieved after over an hour of moody agony .

Thankfully though, through His Truth, strength, grace, guidance, and love, your faith has made you an over-comer. There are no chains, shackles, or limitations in God's will for your life.
