The White Lady is book 2 from Beth Trissel's Ladies in Time series. Beth Trissel is among my favorite and must read authors. This book gives me another reason why I love her so much. It is only a little over 100 pages and I had no problem reading it in one sitting. Such a wonderful, magical and adventurous story. I really enjoyed it and look forward to the next installment of the series.
I give The White Lady five stars and recommend it.

Enemy of the King is a great read! I loved the paranormal aspect of the story and, also, loved the Revolutionary War time period. Another fabulous book by Beth Trissel.

Into the Lion's Heart is yet another fabulous book by Beth Trissel. She is among one of my favorite authors and this book gives me an additional reason why. I love this French Revolution Era story involving Dalton and Cecile. Great chemistry and great romance. The descriptions and scenes are so vivid and are so well written, I felt like I was part of the story.
I highly recommend Into the Lion's Heart, as well as, any other book by Beth Trissel.

between your photos and your wonderful story a real family of ducks and family developed-how wonderful. like life there was sadness, fear, loneliness and love-as in our own lives. thanks for sharing. it brought back childhood memories for me when my parents decided for Easter i could have two ducklings of my own-Huntley and Brinkley (time period not difficult to guess, eh?)

Deliciously descriptive narrative of your fall garden plants and wonderful pictures of both the plants and flowers as well as the landscape around your wonderful Shenandoah farm. Makes me wish I was back in Wisconsin or even West Virginia for scenes like this in the fall.

It looks like you're doing all the right things to attract birds--and flocks of wrens!
Without our bird feeder, I believe the local birds would come up short in our yard in spite of some of its exotic plants and weeds. We see a wren occasionally during the summer, but they seem to be passing through. Mockingbirds are here year-round and are constantly fighting for territory.

Some interesting history about your heritage and the Valley that you lived in all your life. Arguably one of the most beautiful parts of the country, the photography shown in this article is incredibly beautiful and a reminder that even a burned-out valley can come back to life when people are willing to restore it.
My great-great-grandfather was a blacksmith on the Union side from Wisconsin. He probably didn't see battle, staying behind the lines to provide for the needs of the Army, and therefore along with his six brothers, all survived the war.

Thank you for your lovely article about spring in the Shenandoah Valley. Here in the Texas Gulf Coast we get spring a little earlier and some flowering trees burst forth in late January. I used to have Narcissus under shrubs in the front of the house that would return as early as February.
This year we have one voluntary cucumber plant and three (of many) cherry tomato plants that are due to produce fruit in about three weeks. Our pansies blasted through the winter even though we had three days of hard freeze around January 1. My partner loves to take beautiful pictures of our flowers and vegetables in bloom and at harvest.
I find the wildflowers and birds and animals that live off them to be the best.

my Ricks ancestor lost his life during the battle of Guilford Courthouse.
being a patriot, so his brother related via 'The Ricks Family History' the two brothers answered the call to arms, being a Quaker, my several G grand father stuck the muzzle of his musket into the mud and marched forward with the others, 'and, i saw him no more' uncle stated.
Luckily g'ma Nancy and g'father J had 5 children by then, or i would not be reading your excellent article.

I have always love the thought of a cottage garden. As a kid my sisters and my mother would always admonish me for watering weeds, hoping they would produce flowers in abundance. They never did!
The insidious insecticides in our garden center flowers might well be one of the things killing off our bee population.
I enjoy planting flowers from seeds. My husband and our oldest son built me a hothouse from old windows, and I so enjoy the growing of things in there. Right now the Christmas Cactus are in bloom there. I truly love nature, and gardens in general, although I'm getting to a point where I can't physically do all of the bending over and weed plucking that's involved in keeping up with my vegetables or flowers.

What a beautiful description of what a cottage garden should be like along with all those very natural flowers that attract pollinators illustrated so well.
I have noticed that we have several, very beautiful garden center plants that don't attract pollinators at all. It is a shame because we really need all of those insects and birds to keep our environment continually evolving.
I'll never forget my brief stay on Victoria Island British Columbia in August. Cottage gardens there were aflame with color and seemed to decorate every household with their beauty. I would love, one day to get back there and see those gardens again.
