Probably the most mind cleansing book I've read. If you were there, you will find yourself back again. If you never woke up day after day thanking the Lord you made it to another new morning, you don't understand the what it's like to be the a target of opportunity for your enemy and you should read this book. It is labelled fiction; damn close to being too real even sitting in your own house 40 years later. My recommendation is that every shrink that even thinks he understands PTSD, will realize after reading "Digger Dogface Brownjob Grunt" that his understanding was shallow before joining Lt Hardin's platoon in the Jungles.
