What a descriptive and rich kaleidoscope that is Cape Town. It also describes the apartheid that still exists between the rich and the poor. Unfortunately, economic policies that favor the rich and corporations worldwide continue to exacerbate the problem until everyone realizes what is going on and resolves to do something about it.

Gotta love that cheap wine, Frank. Had to look up a few words, but now I am better for it. Enjoyed . . .

This is a portrait of a desolate life, a desperate life where meaning can only be found in the simplest of virtues. You might have titled it "Fields without Dreams." A stark message.

sweetmeats, cow & me (Poetry) - 4/23/2013 12:39:53 PM
I have not been to India, but I have been to Pakistan and Bangladesh. Your descriptions are moving of the harsh environment where scholarship and excellence flourishes amid the pollution and degradation. The only sweet treats that I saw tended to be covered with flies. Still, the food is fantastic and so are the sights.
And Indian professor, a friend and colleague, once gave us a lesson on the economic problems of India. He summed it up in one word, “Cow.”
