Nice poem and illustration. Once the kids understand that multiplication is repeated addition, the task becomes easier than just memorizing the times table. On the other hand, rote learning may also be necessary to build the foundations of knowledge. That's how we learn the alphabet. As the saying goes: "Repetitio est mater studiorum" (Repetition is the mother of learning).

Very enjoyable to read and very clever. A lesson in a poem as well as a story.
When my brother learned that they had calculators in his daughter's school and they didn't teach multiplication, he sat down and taught her the multiplication tables. She got a degree in zoology in college and is a district manager of sales for three states for a pharmaceutical company.
I was very good at math until I hit calculus. Currently, I always use Excel to do any addition, subtraction or multiplication.
Just more accurate than by trying to do it the old way.

Well written critique of the deep depression that addiction to social media brings many young people these days.
In the old days all you had to deal with were the local bullies who didn't amount to much, anyway.
Now, young people find themselves in big rooms, the size of the Internet itself, where they have to deal with really big bullies, telling them that they aren't worth anything unless they have 1 million hits or more on TikTok or whatever.

I like the abstract jaunt of this poem, Andy. It has a feeling of flight and colossal motion, of sound. With these lines being so short, even the form of this poem has velocity, and I really like “Dawn wakes her son/The son sees the sea” — those are two curious and uniquely-written happenings…so succinct, so effective. ~~ djl

There are hidden meanings to these words, only the author knows exactly what they mean. Perhaps it has something to do with how you were brought up. Some memories, especially the bad ones, would stay in a person's life forever, even when not spoken aloud. Some words we silently kept in our pockets never willing to share. It's great to see all the garden flora acting verbally. I don't know why the poor dandelion is so maligned. It makes great wine and greens, while some of the most beautiful flowers are deadly poison. And, you didn't give butterflies equal page space with bees. I think they'll sue. ;-)

You are absolutely right. It is insane for politicians to claim that they are cutting government while they are lining the pockets of their rich benefactors. What you are writing about is income inequality that has been continually growing since the 1980s, putting more and more people into lower and lower income brackets, resulting in a slowdown of the economy and suffering for those that are not in the top 20%.
It's really sad that so many so-called, "leaders," think that they can continue on this course and make things better. They can't. But we can. All we have to do is support and vote for the right people.

A triumph over tyranny. It must've been something to experience the quiet of peace after six long years of frightening skies with enemies overhead day and night.
It's interesting to note that Germany came back quickly after the war and became an economic powerhouse again, thanks to the Marshall plan. I'm not saying that war is an antidote for economic recession. What I'm saying is that perhaps United States would be better off with a Marshall Plan here today.
