Both of my grandfathers were born in Sheboygan and a great uncle was Fire Chief there at the time of the moon landing.
As far as history goes, there is no greater achievement than humans leaving our planet and stopping by on a planetoid. And then, making provision for the return that worked so well.
At the 20-20 conference in Huntington in 1977, celebrating 20 years in space from Sputnik to 20 years into the future, Warner von Braun's team of Germans were there, very upset because they knew and declared, "we can't go back the way things are now. It's about time in 2021 that we began to go back. But I don't see any real use in trying to colonize the moon. Unless we can overcome the effects of reduced gravity on the moon.
Almost instantly, there were people who believed that the whole thing was a government hoax filmed in Arizona. I believe this became the start of so many rumors of conspiracies and hoaxes that permeate our society today, spread through the social media, dumbing down our understanding of science and technology.

I have more of those encounters than I'll never remember. People in general are very nice and helpful especially to someone in a wheelchair whose hands are paralyzed. But I've always been able to easily get a "helping hand."
I like how you connected the generations through a act of kindness especially when it was by younger generation. By the way, when I go out on days when a cold wind blew down my neck, I prefer to wear a hoodie. And I am unfortunately now in the category of advanced senior citizen.
