It's good to see you posting again, Jaimey. If you are experiencing brain flog, your remembrance of her and the time you spent with her is still very sharp.
And I want to thank you for remastering your grandmother's recreations of Bridgeport in the short documentary, A Lady and a City, in 1998 on your website. It is a timeless piece that deserves to be on YouTube for as long as people will view it.

That's quite a set of drums! My nephew is a drummer. Started with a high school band in Madison Wisconsin. I never watched him play. Drumming is the beat, the rhythm of the song. But without any lyrics, I find it hard to play along. I used to wish that drum solos would quit after they repeated so many times the same rhythm and pace.

You have covered a lot of territory with this poem. Yes, when we were young, nature was a simple tool of our enjoyment. But we are now learning so much about nature and our dependence upon it, that nature is now taking on a whole different persona.
You add that books no longer mean as much because we are learning more and more through experience and a constant flow of worldwide news sharing nearly everything, the good and the bad, but mostly the bad. We have to get back out into nature again to realize the good.

Unfortunately, the freedom afforded so-called "patriots" to form militias to guard against the impending danger to the government (already in place, our police forces and the National Guard) as allowed individual citizens, regardless of their worth, to purchase military weapons and their ammunition at will and without registration like they have to do with their other deadly weapon, their automobiles.
Your dream of an electronic gun like those in science fiction, may be on the way, but guns that fire deadly bullets will be around for very long time because almost everyone with more than one gun in the house claims to be collecting museum pieces like 50 caliber machine guns from World War I that they won't hesitate to use on SWAT when it comes to visit.

You certainly must have been a deadhead in your days to have such knowledge of all of the players and their nuances. Even though I was there during the summer of love, they were not on my radar because I wasn't tuned to the San Francisco street scene--just an observer.
One Saturday in 1968 after dropping off a hippie hitchhiker, I happened on a gathering in Panhandle Park with a band playing. I pulled over with my window down to listen and watch, but I was dressed way to square to join that crowd. I just listened for a while and then drove off. Thinking about it later, I may have been watching the Grateful Dead.

I had to laugh a little about the "rare veal," but the poem speaks to a growing social problem probably brought on by increased urbanization and population, creating tension on the highway similar to what I hear attitudes are on the crowded streets of New York. The young, thinking they are part of the scene, think they can defy gravity and harm until it comes crashing home to them in a violent confrontation that serves no purpose except destruction.
I live in road rage city. I find myself calmly laughing at Road Rage Rafe as he tries to pick a fight with every car on the road, sometimes actually succeeding with insults and fingers lifted by any sucker willing to take the challenge.

I love your style-however, the scansion could be tickled up a little. If you 'count the beats' as you read the lines, it can help alot.
