Waiting for Kidney transplant, Lakota quilter hold family sacred (Article) - 4/13/2025 10:22:19 PM
My parents and I enjoyed reading this article. We have come to the conclusion that this Frances and Dwight Afraid of Hawk were the ones that hosted my parents and older siblings in 1977. My parents had a gas leak in their car and a man named Spider (?) fixed it for them. They have shared the story of their adventure at Pine Ridge along with the hospitality, kindness, and generosity of the Afraid of Hawk family. They have fond memories of visiting Wounded Knee and hearing Dwight share his knowledge, as well as pitching a tent on their front lawn, sharing wonderful food and kind gifts, which are still cherished items on my mom's dresser. My parents have often wondered how the family faired ( but lost touch with them )and was sad to hear of their passing but glad to know their lives were so filled. My parents are forever grateful and honored to have know the family.
