This is an excellent book that is well worth the read. It’s not easy for a person who isn’t a soldier to understand what it’s like to be a soldier, and the emotions that accompany the life and death situations that become part of their life. This story helps bridge that gap, interspersing tales of scary situations growing up (which everyone can relate to) with scary situations in Vietnam. A big difference is that, if scared as a kid, you can often run to escape the real or imagined danger. In Vietnam, running wasn’t an option. This book uses one night in Vietnam to share with readers what that is like, and I think makes readers just a bit more appreciative of the ‘kids’ who were able to do that job.

More of a story that an article, I like the way you wrote the down and dirty detail of a point man in the jungle of Vietnam for a day. I didn't think that point men lasted very long with all the perils presented by Charlie.
I was surprised at the amount of "softening up" that was employed ahead of patrols to try to keep casualties down and rain terror on Charlie in the process.
My partner is here in the states with eight of her ten brothers, all born in Saigon and anti-communist. But her extended family is from the north near Hanoi. One uncle survived fighting in the jungle 30 years. None of her extended family was killed during the war in spite of all the bombing, starvation and other hazards.
Our guys seem to have been well supplied by the air from what I read. But the VC owned the jungle.

Congratulations. I have been asked to do audio books of some of my novels, but when I play back my voice, I'm not pleased. I find an audio book to be a daunting proposition, especially since my books haven't become popular even though I am told by readers and reviewers that they are good.
