I missed your book when you first posted it. I was at West Virginia University after getting my doctorate there in 1974 when you were struggling and happened to have a student come to us from Bangladesh who had escaped being killed when leaving Dhaka and running into the Pakistani Army, bent on killing young men coming his way.
I recall a woman friend or relative coming from Canada who had been forced into a bad marriage that she escaped but had to leave the country, discredited. I took the young man with me one time to Canada to visit his sister who was visiting from England. His single entry visa did not allow him to leave the United States and come back, so I drove into Canada and picked up his family and sister in Hamilton and brought them back to Niagara Falls so that we could have a picnic and then I took them back.
Thanks to him, I visited Dhaka in January 1978 for four days, staying with his parents. We visited the local university and his father was appalled at what little of the physics department had by way of equipment for the students.
Like you my friend has had a wonderful career and is now Dean emeritus and full professor from Kent State University.
I will be posting a story of my trip to Bangladesh very soon in a couple of weeks in the Stories section. Part of a book of Tales from my youth.
All the best with this book because it is very important for the world to know the great contribution to science that women from around the world have made, sometimes even in the shadow of husbands who didn't contribute as much.

Beautifully expressed. Even for those who claim they never change, life forces changes in lifestyle that may be subtle but they are irreversible.

Yes, the year is coming to an end and we can celebrate because in 2021 there should be ample vaccine for the world to end this scorge until the next one comes along.

Some interesting observations about life and the lessons that it provides. You missed my favorite, the "Fair-weather friend." The kind that sticks around only as long as things are going well, but disappears when you really need them. And you made me think of that theme song for Toy Story, You've Got A Friend In Me.

I enjoyed this. It feels guileless to me. A sweet friendship refreshes the soul. "learning and sharing' is certainly part of the equation too, I agree. The best mirror in life (I believe) is a best friend, someone who sincerely brings out the best in you. Thanks for sharing. rlc

Yes you must. I recall our little hometown at the honor of having the pageant for Ms. Dairyland USA. As the Queen and her court were coming down Main Street in an open convertible, a wall of white followed them down Main Street until they couldn't be seen in the hail. We ducked for cover and in the end, the ground was covered with 3 inches of the stuff… Cooling it otherwise hot summer day considerably.

Most people live out their entire lives in peace and harmony. While accidents and illness fall on us and we always eventually age and leave this place, there are some who have to be saved from natural calamities or are, by chance or circumstance, caught up in wars or violence not of their own making.
This very high tech world that we live in with its rapid communication and ability for amateurs and evildoers to manipulate news makes it seem like things are worse when they are not. Now is not the time to cower in fear over what is happening. Just a simple view of the news from a few years ago will show you that things today are actually much better and much better revealed with the injustices righted like never before. We live in an amazing time when hatred and violence may be forever banished from world society because we will no longer just accept it as "the way things are."

Love and hate are two invisible forces that are so profound and powerful. However, we must know love conquers all. Peace and understanding will prevail but justice must be served as well.
