While the reading level and the length may be for some middle school readers, I didn't read all of it because of time restraints and the unfortunate "tight" format given to guests, or those who do not know how to use the editor.
I also object to the kid being 14. Most 14-year-olds are much more grown-up and less gullible these days. I would move that kid's age back to, probably, 10.

You held me spellbound with your emotional description of what was going through the mind of the narrator. Even with the dense formatting I was able to almost read every word as I raced to the big surprise at the end. Believe it or not, I thought he was taking his dog to the vet!
