An Exciting Novel in a Cynical World
About three quarters through C.B. Hampton’s action-packed thriller Power Hunger, the beautiful and clever Angela explains, “So the world’s oldest conspiracy wants to give the newest one a spanking.” Indeed, this novel is marked by a sharp cynicism that is deftly counterbalanced by a refreshing wholesomeness. That wholesomeness is embodied in the novel’s hero David Lee Hunter.
An ex-marine and a present-day journalist for the respected Wind publication, David is an endlessly resourceful and resilient combatant fighting against one whopper of a conspiracy. Without giving away too much, let’s just say that conspiracy has to do with high tech learning systems, brainwashing, and the President-Elect. In one life-saving feat after another, the ever quick-thinking and equally quick-fisted David uncovers layer-by-layer the nefarious schemes that delve deep into the heart of the government.
The comradery among the ex-marines working for the Wind makes for some snappy dialogue (especially in the exchanges between David and the saucy Juliet), and the guidance of retired General Ramsey McKay helps keep the intricate plot propelling forward. Plus, the romance between Angela and David adds a measure of sweetness in a stew of bitter encounters. The sadistic killer Dorgan casts dark shadows over David and his comrades’ noble efforts.
These rich elements and the fast pacing make Power Hunger a fun read right up to the very satisfying conclusion.

It took me a while as I read the excerpt to figure out what you were driving at. But finally, I did. So the ending was no surprise. But that I thought of several other scenarios first, is a feather in your cap. There is only one scene and only three actors, so this one would make a great short movie.
I wish that I could read like you have, but I've been too busy writing. Kudos on this one.

This book is one of the most enjoyable works I've had the pleasure of reading in quite some time. The author is a master at creating vivid images that make you feel like you're part of the action, yourself. You get to know the characters intimately and share their emotions as they experience fear, love, frustration, and triumph.
I had a hard time putting it down as I couldn't wait to find out was what going to happen next. Evidently, a lot of research into the paranormal went into this excellent mystery/thriller. Hampton Bush carries on the traditions of Stephen King and Richard Matheson as a gifted storyteller. Highly recommended. It would also make a good movie or TV series. Bravo, Mr. Bush.
