This was my kind of read until the Vexel entered the scene. I guess harrowing tragedies on a river and need to survive are not enough excitement (for moviegoers?) without some weirdness added in. At least it may be original and not a repeat of werewolves and that ilk.

Great advice, superbly written! To give them a plug, Toastmasters International does a wonderful job of helping anyone learn to speak well in public. Here's an anecdote about Vietnam and courage: To conserve water, a lady officer and I (an NCO) shared a shower once. She said "If you tell others, I'll say I was here first." I replied "Then maybe we should do something that we both will be proud to talk about." She came back with "Oh, I always knew you guys were good. I'll have think about it!" Unfortunately I did not forfeit my Good Conduct medal.

I agree with the writer's sentiments. We are all unique beings and what we want to do as public speakers is communicate that uniqueness.It is no good imitating someone else in their presentation style. Fake presentation turns off the listener. 'Be true to yourself' is an important axiom to bear in mind.
