Your dreams are much more surreal than mine. You have captured every little bit, like the funnel cake out of place and my imagine thought of a thunderbird that could. Cool.
My dreams tend to get on a one track story that could become a novel if I slept long enough. Because they keep going and going like the energizer bunny with things I thought of that I never would think of if I was awake.
More power to our dreams as fodder for our stories.

It's a great, well written story, Leona. Especially the family dynamics. At first, I thought Reese was a girl like Reese Witherspoon. But then, I understood better why Derik would tease him so.
I never heard of Alte Hexe, but I'm sure she's alive and well in Tex Mexican folklore. It's too long for a children's story but a great relationship story.
I don't recall my mother ever telling us stories when I was a child. But of course I knew what witches were very young and right away didn't believe in them like other kids. Never recall going to sleep afraid of what was in the closet. Maybe because my twin brother was right next to me in bed.
We occasionally spend a weekend in Corpus Christi. It's a great place to visit and probably a wonderful place to raise children.
