Heartfelt article. Such situations will simply grow, as you imply, as the population of old people increases exponentially. The future is bleak for most, unhappily.

So true. I have been the caregiver for my mother, and now have one whom I pay by providing a place to live for her and her 3 dogs. It is not a great situation, but when you are poor you do what you have to (me AND the caregiver), and I am thankful for the companionship and hard work she provides. I wonder what will happen to me, as I have no daughters, and expect nothing from my sons. Maybe someone will realize we need assisted living for the poor, not just the well to do. Good article.
