Fulfilling Life's Purpose (Article) - 7/30/2003 1:00:47 AM
Interesting article. What you have suggested is very much desirable but religion and spirituality have failed to make man behave. According to renknowned Indian thinker Krishnamurthy, Man has only advanced technologically but psychologically he is as he was. Haven’t you heard “ Man will struggle for religion, write for religion, fight for religion, anything but live religion” In the end you have written spiritual purpose and the whole article seems to make it sound that there is a higher spiritual purpose. According to the great spiritual mystic Osho “ God comes to you in the manner he chose you to be but the problem is everybody is misplaced. Somebody who should have been a poet is a moneylender and vice versa. When the basic purpose is not fulfilled, meditation and religions become useless because mediation follows happiness and not the other way around”. The basic purpose itself is the main purpose. You must have heard of “ Know thyself”. That itself is the basic purpose. This fact has been illustrated in Po Bronson’s latest Book “ What should I do with my life?” where all kinds of misfits are given. When all the waking hours are spent in misery what higher spirituality (peace, happiness, equanimity) can one talk about. See my article on Know Thyself for further details

Cleansing Our Emotions (Article) - 7/30/2003 12:57:06 AM
Very interesting article. From a management perspective as well, I had read somewhere that the mind never gets tired. It’s our emotions that make us tired. The mind can work with equal efficiency at the end of eight hours as at first provided we manage our emotions well. You must have heard of “ Prevention is better than cure”. My submission is that why allow emotions to get clogged in the first place rather than managing them later in the manner you have suggested. For instance, a father wanted his child to wash hands. What would other wise have been a conflicting situation was resolved when he took the child to his doctor friend, showed what germs were under the microscope and further showed a video film on what happens when germs take over. The child was so perturbed that he resolved there and then to wash hands off his own free will. This is what I call getting willing co-operation instead of grudging submission which would have been the case if it were forced on him. You need correct and relevant information to resolve such situations proactively and that to my mind is real spirituality. Where unconditional support is concerned, we in India say “ Be in the world not of it”. Its like meeting passengers on a train. Just as one does not become attached to the passengers one encounters on a train, one should not get attached to anything in life but its easier said than done.

Blanca, While this was an excellent write, many faiths do not believe that our deceased loved ones walk the earth in the form of a spiritual being, nor do they believe that we will be reunited with our loved ones in the afterlife on the same plane (i.e., as man and wife). I agree with you that grief is a natural process, and one must experience this emotion, not avoid it. To truly move beyond bereavment, one must experinece the final stage of grief - acceptance. Acceptance doesn't mean we forget all about our departed beloveds. One can still love, honor, and cherish a deceased spouse GUILT FREE while moving forward with life, perhaps even finding love again. To allow every thought be consumed by the presence of spiritual beings only leads to feelings of "guilt by betrayal" should the surviving spouse wish to start dating again or remarry. These "fits and starts" are the anitithesis of growth. All in all, however, I thoroughly enjoyed your article, and look forward to more from you.
