Find Out if Your Aggravating (Article) - 3/10/2007 11:25:07 AM
I've found over the years, that people who are offended easily, want to be offended. It is how they keep from interacting on a responsible adult level. This is a thoughtful article. Enjoyed reading. Love your pic too.

Life is Great (Article) - 8/8/2006 10:47:30 AM
Awesome article! This really struck a nerve with me.
You GET IT!
These are all excellent insights, as it all comes down to personal responsibility...we are all responsible for each of our actions and the consequences of those actions, which, in effect, means we're ultimately responsible for everything that happens to us.
Too often we're tempted to hide behind excuses, like "I suffer from the disease of alcoholism" (Mel Gibson), or "I'm poor and that big company can afford a little pilferage now and again."
There's really no excuse that enables us to abandon our self-responsibility. If one drinks too much, put down the bottle, if one's prone to temptation, get your head straight...that's the beauty of free will - self control.
Anyone who cherishes freedom, truly cherishes it, knows that real freedom doesn't exist in the absence of personal responsibility.
Surrendering our personal responsibility is nothing less than surrendering our self-ownership.

Have High Expectations (Article) - 11/2/2005 3:25:35 PM
Interesting article. I have been a student of optimism-pessimism and expectations for some time now. I don't think you can force yourself to be an optimist and have high expectations until you experience the ultimately good, caring, positive, nurturing dominant aspect of life and God over its opposite, especially in adversity...seeing that tragedies and even evil have an ultimately good purpose. I have been in some very dark places in my life, but God and life have pulled me through to a good place, eventually, every single time. So now I can know for certain why one should be an optimist and expect high success and rewards. However, this expectations thing really gets in the way with human relationships because of our fundamental fairness thermometer (which God does not have because of the problems it causes!; we act responsibly, kind, right, fair, sensibly and helpful, and we "expect" others to return that stuff...however, as soon as you expect a certain result, it disappoints you. By not expecting something, and just being and doing (intrinsic motivation), anything that happens is good and enjoyable. Our biggest demon is our dualistic mind which convinces us some things are okay and others are not. Perrsonally i don't think God intended us to divide life in half--He just wanted us to experience both sides of the equation so that we could know how both sides fit purposefully together in a whole that produced more good than either side alone. Hard concept to digest, but that is exactly why it is hard...none of us want a free prize. Knowledge and wisdom can be painful...I am sure you will agree that we writers write from experiences that put ourselves through unpleasant pain and difficult growth. Just some rabling thoughts...Bill Cottringer

Very true and nicely put. Everything begins with forgiveness.
Fear Paralyzes (Article) - 9/1/2005 2:56:41 AM
The best way to sum up this article would be to remember that there is nothing to fear but fear. One has to overcome fear and move on in life.
Get Busy (Article) - 9/1/2005 2:45:58 AM
There is something called occupational therapy which implies being busy in times of stress or to get busy. It is also useful for war returned soldiers. Once a desired course of action is chosen, it is best to get cracking.
What's Your Worth? (Article) - 9/1/2005 2:38:27 AM
Very well written. It is indeed true that to get out of any such awkward situation, decisive steps have to be taken to avoid continued exploitation.
Better Yourself (Article) - 9/1/2005 2:29:18 AM
The whole article is excellenteeverything begins with a small step. The most important thing for happiness is to find yourself and be yourself.

Great advice for anyone...after all, none of us knows how much time we've got left.
You put your ideas across very well.
Great writing!

Get Busy (Article) - 8/22/2004 2:51:59 PM
This is useful upbeat advice. There is such a close encounter with God during adversity, and the only way out of the discomfort is to listen and do, just like you say. I think we writers need to spend more time reading each other's work and affirm/validate it when it jives with our experience...or sometimes even speak up when we disagree (I seem to learn much from those I disagree with, even though it is a little on the painful side, growing from the experience! Fear Paralyzes (Article) - 6/13/2003 8:04:49 PM
Great advice Annette. All emotion is suspect - fear, anger, jealousy, etc are all suspect and negative.
Working in the Fire Department forces you to discard emotion as much as possible. I remember the first fire I went to almost eighteen years ago. It was everything I didn't expect. Instead of being bright (lit by flame) it was impenetrably dark. It was hot and it got hotter as we moved in and I thought that maybe I wasn't cut out for this job. It was a lot harder work than I ever imagined, snaking a hoseline with 180 pounds of back-pressure though a winding apartment and dumping water on the fire took every bit of energy I had.
I learned a lot since then...mostly about what you speak of here - to overcome and swallow your fears.
A guy I worked with was badly burned in second alarm on the Grand Concourse in the Bronx. It took him months to recover from his severe burns. After his recuperation he couldn't wait to get back to work because he felt the longer he was away, the more his mind would build up the aversion to what he'd been through. He's still on the FDNY today, as a Lieutenant in Harlem.
Fine writing Annette!
Fear Paralyzes (Article) - 6/13/2003 8:24:48 AM
fear DOES paralyze; i know. i live with it nearly every day, especially recently. i am scared of storms, and we have been having a lot of those here in texas, and with no basements to hide in when severe weather threatens, i have been a nervous wreck. i needed to read this today; thanks for sharing! please keep me in your prayers, and pray that this stubborn weather breaks SOON! :( (((HUGS))) and love, your (stressed out) texas friend, karen lynn.
Hang In There (Article) - 6/10/2003 7:36:06 PM
You do a great job of basing your articles on sound Biblical principles. I remember reading a compilation of all four Gospels bro9ught together as a unified whole. It was written by Leo Tolstoy and it was called "The Gospels in Brief." It's a great book though it's based on the older Greek version, rather than the Latin version o9f the Bible.
You'd probably love it. I think it can be found on Amazon and even half.com. You're one person who'd really appreciate that work.
Fine writing here...as usual.

Awsome advice and extremely well written. I have a few suggestions over a couple of minor glitches so I'll e-mail those to you.
Where Are You? (Article) - 6/7/2003 2:47:58 PM
You have a great understanding of Biblical principles. That is what the Founder's based their beliefs, as enumerated in the Decalration of Independence and the Constitution,
Forgiveness is hard for a lot of people because they cannot first forgive themselves. Many people cna't find the courage to admit their flaws and tresspasses...that is human.
Jesus said, "Such is death, man is called to life and turns away from it."
You really are a fine writer...keep at it. You're good at it.
What's Your Worth? (Article) - 6/5/2003 2:24:42 PM
This is extremely well written and much needed advice for so many people. You took responsibility for yourself and that is real freedom (LIBERTY). Most people mistake liberty for "Doing whatever we want...whatever feels good." That is NOT liberty, peronal responsibility and self-ownership is...and you reclaimed your ownership of yourself by refusing to be manipulated by another. That's a great message.
Fine writing.
