This is a satirical story intended to point out the absurdity of the Biblical account of the Great Flood, which is about as far from reality as one can get. According to Genesis, animals do indeed appear out of nowhere and are magically and randomly transported great distances.

Written in a way children can follow. However, when we tell stories that are so far from reality like the koalas growing bigger from not eating and walking great distances which they can't, we mislead children into believing that all stories are true even if the circumstances are not. I much prefer a story much closer to nature with a lesson or lessons about behavior along the way. The way your story is portrayed, animals can appear out of nowhere and survive anything. I don't see a life lesson in that.
