From your bio I learned that you are a prolific writer. But perhaps, there came a time when you found it difficult to continue writing.
As I age I find not only am I writing more on more subjects, not having any trouble finding words. I am relying on more Internet research to make sure that scenes in my stories and books are correct and not too fanciful. Real-life stories are much better than stories that are all fantasy and therefore if not allegory or satire, simply unbelievable.
You have only posted one of your books. Perhaps you should post more.
It looks like I will be writing the day I die. I hope you are doing the same.

My mother kept me in candy and other sweets, so I never went to the penny candy aisle. Saved my money for college and bigger things.
My partner has a shop. Many of her customers come by just to talk. She basically is a psychiatrist for many of them who need mental counsel. And she certainly knows if they have been to Service Town looking for lot lizards. Some colorful terms there.

It's interesting how you had to "run away" you find yourself. When I was 16 I got to go on a seven day canoe trip over 100 miles in the Canadian wilderness. That walkabout taught me a lot about myself and gave me a lifelong interest in wilderness. Some of our inner cities have become wilderness as well and are occupied by feral animals and feral humans can somehow exist on the mean streets. In a way, I admire them.
If it wasn't my travels, I wouldn't have much to write about.

Some great advice for shaping characters in our writing.
I find it the most difficult to write from the viewpoint of a woman, because as you know, men and women are fundamentally very different.
And writing a character that is from another culture or has another language or vernacular when they speak English. Is always a challenge but rewarding when it sounds right.

As a child, I read Treasure Island and shortly after, saw the movie. From that one image of the book by Robert Lewis Stevenson and nearly nothing more, in 2005 I wrote a pirate story both in poem form and short story…From Little Acorns Grow.
I just shared it with the editor from my writers group, and she told me that it is the best thing she's ever seen that I've written. All because of Robert Lewis Stevenson.

That's a wonderful story. Especially about your walkabout and concern for the Philadelphia Youth Study Center.
I found Boy Scouts very helpful in my youth. At 16, as a an Explorer Scout, my walkabout was a seven day 100 mile canoe journey through the Canadian wilderness. I became chief navigator, cook and bottle washer, fisher and sailor of our canoe with favorable wind and my pancho for a sail.

You are preaching to my choir and I'm glad for it. The more of us that write about our discontent with the way things are and approach our elected officials with our concerns, the better.
While I have always been outspoken and unafraid, my own ability to be physically present and to speak out is greatly diminished so late in life.
I was grateful to see that so many Americans were going to get out of the house or leave work and participate in No Kings Day. I believe a time is coming very soon, perhaps as soon as the midterm election, when things will become much more favorable for all of us, all of the time.
We can't let it continue the way it is going. The way your article clearly showed what it means to be an American white washed and served up as a privileged money making myth.

People are attracted to bad news. I am amazed at the crowds that gather around a bad event just to leer. Bad news gets people to read newspapers and watch television news, among other means of getting news as simple as hearing what your neighbor has to say over the fence. On social media, people generate conspiracy theories that aren't provable.
You're right about people being generally kind and generous. It's just that money drives everything and bad news is money based on viewership, readership, etc. Good news rarely sells like bad news.
Keep a level head, be kind to everyone, and we'll be surprised how little bad news there is in our lives. Unless our children are caught up in drugs, a cult, or depressed to the point of suicide. It's up to us to make our children healthy and happy. Don't neglect them.

I love it most when artists come by and take a wall or side of a building that is filled with cryptic messages from gangs to one another and fills it with a beautiful mural.
Also, the broad sides of buildings that otherwise would just be a plain looking can come to life when turned into a mural. The largest free canvases on the world, so far.

An attitude that an author must have, as well as, thick skin.
If I don't tell my story in many ways like I always do, I will always be misinterpreted from what little people know about me. Even people who think they know me are often remarking to what I have written that I have revealed more of myself in that little story or article.
Whenever anyone asks me about their story, I tell them to hurry up and write it down. There's no better time than right now.

I wish I knew about a neighborhood library where my books could go when I am gone. Our neighborhood library that served as an election location for a number of years is now closed for good, I believe. As the city cuts cost and believes that book libraries are no longer needed in an Internet age, libraries like you have are needed more than ever.

My mother was very frugal. But Roger and I were twins, and she dressed us alike until we were in junior high school. She bought most of our clothes from catalog sales and altered them to fit. I probably would've bought from a secondhand store but there weren't many around. I do recall buying out of season marked down items. And I never had a large wardrobe as a professional like so many other others.
My partner is from Vietnam and has an alteration and dry cleaning shop. She is very frugal and buys most of her clothes from Goodwill donated by some of her customers. She gets designer clothes that fit her very well for a fraction of their original cost. But she buys all my clothes new and far more than I ever bought for myself.

My grandmother read every book in three small town libraries. I got a library card when I was six and even used library books through my higher education rather than buying them to put on the shelf, never to be opened again.
Unfortunately, the only time I've gone to my local library has been to drop off my books and to vote when it was my polling place for a few years.
My library now is mostly online.

Congratulations on your success… your daughter! I don't believe I ever read The Little Engine That Could. But I certainly have heard of the book I know that there's nothing like taking a little steps every day towards a goal to finally reach it.
In second grade we went to the library in Wausau Wisconsin where they had a fish pond with goldfish in it. Every time I was there I sought out books by Dr. Seuss. In spite of being wacky, those books often had a great lesson. One that I remember most was the overuse of valuable resources to the point of extinction.

Yes, President Biden did a great thing for a great leader, Marcus Garvey, during oppressive times.
I certainly hope that the righteous right doesn't try to bury that history or dismiss it as simply racist woke when it stands out among many efforts by the oppressed and enslaved to regain their freedom however difficult it may be.
