The history of this book goes back to 1999, when Elaine and I lived in Montevideo for 3 months. The first time I saw the two incongruous monuments side by side the basic premise for this novel jumped into my mind. It took 12 years and at least five more visits to Montevideo for me to find the time to embrace my inner mystery writer and to encourage the story to flow from imagination to computer keyboard. I had a lot of fun writing the book, especially where we got the chance to remember some of the places and meals we visited and ate back in 1999.
