I'm not much for haiku, but some poets think it a high art.
Every year it gets hotter and the carbon dioxide in the air increases. There are all kinds of excuses, but we all know what causes this. If we don't do something soon to really make a difference like we have been doing for the last 200 years using fossil fuels, there may not be any turning point going back. Only one like your image or like the surface of Venus. Devoid of all life and us.

Hi Ron,
Thank you very much for the reviews. I appreciate the time you take out to read each and every one of my poems, I feel obliged.
The last stanza that you see was a modification at the last minute,
the original ending was slightly different.
It went something like this:
"Are these signs that we should beware of?
Is this what Sybil and David hath fortelleth?
Is civilization, as we know it, close to an ending?
And Doomsday nigh hath cometh?"
Please tell share your inputs, I would love to hear from you.

The Covid epidemic certainly did bring out the worst in us. And I don't know why, because it was really only a small glitch in the rather smooth road that most people have in life.
You have called out everyone of the ills that we do, largely out of selfishness and lack of empathy. We have begun to let government do it rather than taking care of our own. So many have given up. Just waiting to die.
I particularly like the last stanza except you lost that beautiful rhyme scheme. I tend to have the same problem.

Interesting. At first, I thought it might be about the author. Then, when he died, I realized he may actually have been writing about someone you knew.
When I was in college there were these "perpetual students" who would just keep going to school and never graduate. It was as though they were looking for a passion that they didn't find. For some, it may have just been fear of the real world, sheltered in the arms of the ivory tower. Not willing to grow up and leave the place.
There is something to be said about this of a "9 hour shift." One can use that discipline to work on one's passion. However if one is still looking for a passion, one is chasing one's tail.

A much needed write. Cowards they are as they are afraid of the truth. So they try to erase all that tell it like is. COWARDS! Why we are all are imperfect and they shed innocent blood in the name of the Devil. No good God would want anyone to kill what He has created. That type of logic is really sick! Amen

To ambush is the preferred method for the predator. In nature, the predator always eats what he kills. If we catch a terrorist, perhaps we should ask the terrorist to eat what he killed. It should be videoed and placed on the Internet for all of the would-be terrorists to see.
I'm being satirical here. I hope that I don't get hate mail as result of what I just wrote. The fact is, terrorists act out of passion and not with reason or purpose like animals. Hence, they cannot be dealt and trusted like animals of prey can. They must be discovered before they commit these heinous acts of unconscionable violence toward innocent people.
Thanks for bringing this to our attention. My poem, Alienation, speaks to the root cause.

I can well understand and relate to this poem, Narayan. I followed the road of booze, little pills that made me feel I was Superman and sliding those steel rods into my veins. How I lived ling enough to break the habits is a miracle. Good poetry.
