I loved reading this poem. A very thoughtful and enjoyable tribute to both the river and the man inspired by its associated activities.
I am especially fond of rivers because I grew up on the Racquette river, so this one is especially delightful to me.

When one of my closest friends hovered at deaths door, I felt what you expressed so clearly in IS TONIGHT THE NIGHT. Especially the line about tears being shed where no one can see.
