Underdog by Euan Leckie is a truly wonderful novel that works really well on several levels. It works as a novel about teen issues, as a novel about family and friendship, and as a novel about animal welfare. The characters are all brought to life vividly (including the dog Jeffo). It's well written, heartfelt and compelling. Plus it's a very fast read, and I know this is a cliche but it's hard to put down. I could have read it in a single sitting.
