While I'm not fond of selling our books here in the Articles section, I will grant that portions of what you wrote here may be useful for other authors, especially the part at the end where you seem to be asking advice about your nom de plume.
It is unfortunate there is an established author by the same name. To set yourself apart and to have yourself appear when someone searches for you, you need to carefully choose your name so that people will not be attracted to the other Tricia Sullivan or confused when trying to find you or your books. I hear a lot about brand. Your author name is your brand and you should probably stick to one that is unique and over time you can cultivate. I used my real name and my middle initial like Arthur C. Clarke because I write science fiction similar to him and because using that name sets me apart and yet allows people to identify with the real me as well.
I recall the confusion and explanations that are required in schools when Samuel Clemens and Mark Twain are discussed. I believe the reason that Samuel Clemens, an established writer, used Mark Twain, it was because he wrote some controversial stuff that he didn't want traced back to his good newspaper writing name.
