An interesting tale that kept my 4 year old attention span in check and engaged.
I have childhood memories of events and routines like these, but little remembrance at 4, perhaps because I was very sick with pneumonia and scarlet fever that year.

I like your writing style and you know your subject well. You leave the reader with much anticipation. A good story has a beginning, middle, and end. Your story has a great beginning, leaving us to wonder about the rest. Perhaps it is the start of a great short story that I am craving to read. Or, a novel of epic proportions. Beware of Bob Marleying too much.
My cousin, while living with his wife on a 1948 Chris-Craft 32 footer in a slip in Pompano Beach, announced, “I want to buy a sailboat, sail the Caribbean, and live off the land.”
I replied, “As far as I know, there is very little land on the Caribbean Sea. Perhaps you will live off the sea, but not the land.” ;-)
