I would say that your sister's instructor was a very poor swimming instructor if he only taught her to dog paddle, followed by diving into deep water that she would have to swim back to shore from. Thankfully, your father was there to save her. Why didn't you try to save her? Were you too young?
My father was a good self-taught swimmer. He saved a few people in his day. I managed both a swimming and lifesaving merit badge in Scouts without really knowing how to swim. I got a certificate at seven and started dive off the high dive, frantically swimming to the side of the pool. Swam much better underwater than on top. I finally learned to slow down and swim well in college from our athletic director did a bathtub pool that was refilled once a week with very cold water on Thursdays. Old Rayyyy Ceee Johnson! declared, "Thou shall not yourinate in the pool!"
My partner, when she was over 50, started to watch videos on the Internet and has taught herself to swim very well. I'm really proud of her.

We seem to have little in common. Except being from the upper Midwest icebox. While I spent my grade school in an inner-city changing neighborhood, I'm more of a country hick. However, I do agree with Grace Slick and her White Rabbit and Obama and his care for people. I love snakes and think that poodles are for people who like grooming dogs. I learned to swim in swimming pools and love heights.

My great great grandfather Nelson Hull was a blacksmith during the Civil War along with six brothers, also blacksmiths. Probably a big, burly guy who knew how to stay out of the way of the bloodiest fighting by shoeing horses, fixing wagons and other blacksmith duties.
His son, Charles, was a beer wagon driver in Milwaukee. But his kids, Wallace, my grandfather, and Roy, my great uncle were born in Sheboygan. Roy stayed on in Sheboygan and became the town Fire Chief. Charlie ended up living in the town of Hull in north central Wisconsin and became the postal carrier between Medford and Abbotsford. Wallace worked for Mr. Owen in his box factory, was a farmhand and limousine driver for rich Chicago landowner in Wisconsin. My father, born in Owen was a lifelong truck driver and Teamster member. The rest of my family immigrated from Germany in the late 1800s and were farmers.
I was the first to go to college my entire extended family. Unrelated to the famous Dr. Hull who helped stop the yellow fever epidemic in San Antonio or Cordell Hull, Secretary of State under FDR. I come from rather ordinary, rather nonreligious, stock

I don't know about Thatcher, but I shared a brief collegial period with Dr. Julie Vargas, Skinner's daughter in the College of Human Resources and Education. It was her younger sister, Deborah, who was the first child to experience Skinner's design for his Air Crib, providing both comfort and enrichment for his daughter. The design was featured in Ladies Home Journal and many couples used the design for their own children.
On the faculty with her husband, Dr. Ernest Vargas, who wasn't a behaviorist, Dr. Julie Vargas followed in her father's footsteps and advanced the field of of behaviorology. She is now the president of his foundation.

And many people go to college to get a paycheck. They flock to degrees that are high-paying. Some that are very vocational and require only idiot training rather than any intellectual involvement that was traditionally for higher education. Philosophy is the lowest paying teaching job. Physical education (whatever that is?), with coaching on the primary side, is the highest paying.
People who get PhDs and spend years doing research and postdocs, now find that the only teaching jobs they can get are adjunct semester contracts, paying very low for credit hours without any benefits.
Administrators abound, many finding ways to avoid work, primarily by padding their staff with workers, while they schmooze their way to higher political and paying paychecks.

Coleman Barrie is a Founder of KSJ which ph became Twin Cities Public Television.
Garrison Keillor got his first breaks on KSJN. Reverend Coleman Barrie hails from the Red Wing Minnesota area. His Ph.d was Irish Catholics in German America.
Reverend Coleman Barrie is considered one of the most influential Catholic priests in American history. He was the President of SJU during the turbulent 1960s.

An interesting tribute to the grace of Gods. Unfortunately, so many have used these gods to further their causes in ways that have been so destructive to life.
I noticed that your prayers to Allah are quite repetitive. From ancient times onward, repetition has been a way of indoctrinating people to various cults and causes. There is something in the human brain that easily accepts these repetitions and it hardens the thought processes with the memory cells of the brain filled with these phrases, blocking simple critical thinking in favor of the noncritical goal of the phrases uttered over and over like, "God is good." No one ever seems to question God about this oft repeated, "fact." is God really good or not?

My partner is Vietnamese. While she hated what the communists did to her beloved country, she has an uncle (among other family members in the North) who is still alive after fighting for over 30 years against the good (?) guys with all the firepower you describe. How would you like to be on the receiving end of a B-52 strike?
