A Trekker's Tale (Short Story) - 11/6/2013 7:34:33 AM
From my brief trip around the world and a couple of other jaunts outside the country, these stories are legion. You must have enough to fill the rest of your lifetime from your notepads. I can identify and find your writing quite enjoyable. The only part that I didn't dig is the food connoisseur part. I love food and will eat almost anything offered to me by my friends in other countries, but I don't spend a lot of time with food names and food fetishes. I just enjoy food or don't. Unfortunately, I can be quite blunt about mystery meat, overly hot spicy food, and poison described as a delicacy.
Two of my experiences come to mind. In the Cairo airport, luggage was coming into the pickup area through a hole in the wall. It jammed and luggage was being torn up while nobody seemed to pay any attention. A table nearby was filled with ladies underwear, apparently held by customs.
While completing paperwork in the Dhaka, Bangladesh airport, I looked down to see that the entire contents of my carry-on briefcase had fallen out and spread across the floor. Several people jumped up and and helped me put it all back in my briefcase. My personal guide soured when he saw my friend's father, for he knew he was going to lose my big tip.
