From my perspective, the genre of fantasy is a difficult one to bring to "reality." Congrats on developing your own insight sparked from imagination and the discipline to differentiate your characters by keeping detailed notes in a journal. May your story truly spring to life.

Very good advice. While I don't necessarily like fantasy and don't write in the genre, largely because the characters in all fantasy like you alluded to generally have very humanlike characteristics and behaviors, like any other drama. Besides, I find dramas using realistic people and places just as entertaining without having to come up with allegorical worlds like those I read in childhood like Peter Pan, Alice in Wonderland, Gulliver's Travels and others.
I have been accused of poor character development. I've also been accused of "writing down" to my readers by preceding dialogue with descriptive words that dialogue alone could carry. Like you, I'm learning as I go and have promised to jot down all of my characters and something about them on a separate place as I encounter them in my next novel for which I have a conclusion and the beginning, but nothing in between until I start writing and the magic begins.
Good luck with your novels. May you be as successful as Harry Potter or so many others in the fantasy genre that especially young people like to crawl up into to get away from their texting and other routine pursuits.
