From the author - This novel has a strong environmental theme. I'm hoping it will make readers think about the damage that the increased mining of coal will do to our environment and climate. The sad thing is that the situation I describe in the story is actually happening right now - an environmental group called Forest and Bird and a coalmining company are battling it out in the courts of New Zealand. Personally, I hope the environmentalists win.
