Strategies to Help You Stick With a Healthy Eating Plan for Life (Article) - 11/6/2014 8:16:54 AM
Good advice, often repeated. The problem is that most people have a problem with self-discipline. They never can get their act together on many fronts. Eating is just one of those fronts that people face and cannot change unless they have their own self discipline. I have recounted many times here to other authors that, while I have been paralyzed for 50 years, I am healthy in spite of the ravages of the increasing loss of muscle function affecting every other function in my body more than just the inability to walk and move. I changed my diet in my 20s, largely because I was a poor (monetarily) student and found that eating good, fresh food that I cooked myself, not only saved money, but I ate right. As for physical exercise, I never spent money on conveniences, but opted for doing physical labor and a lot of walking rather than hiring others or driving when I could easily walk. I also avoided smoking altogether and retained a keen sense of taste and smell, not requiring excess condiments and other chemical flavor enhancers that most people seem to have to have, rather than the flavor of the original food without all the doctoring. I recently had my diet reviewed by a dietitian because my paralysis causes severe bowel problems. She really liked what I eat and prescribed that I eat some cheese or nuts (I like now eat both) with my lunch of uncooked vegetables that I've had for the last 25 years. No fads for me. Ron
