I have never heard of the the word “scrum” used in this context before, but I can see how it's applied. I am not from England or Australia, but I believe you are referring to the rugby term for what Americans call, a “huddle.” If that is true, you are bringing sport into management. Anything to get the troops excited and rally around the cause.
When I left teaching graduate-level management courses many years ago I interviewed with a famous football player who had started a consulting firm designed to rally the troops and increase productivity by hype, comradarie, and all that rot. When I interviewed, I found that I was much too old and not pretty enough––and probably too production oriented to fit the image of the Fran Tarkington consulting firm. That's okay, because his approach was all hype and no substance. I wanted no part of that.
