Points well taken. Snakes are maligned the world over. When I was young, I had snakes for pets. Growing up, it seemed like everyone killed snakes without concern, thinking that all snakes were bad. It bothers me when people say they are afraid of snakes when they are much more easy to handle than many other creatures.
And you're very right about the rats. Snakes keep them under control.
