You are truly amazing! If you have become successful financially with your books in only one year, you have a genius for storytelling. Your dyslexia may also be the reason why you are so productive.
As far as editing goes, editing is very important, because books, articles, magazines, and newsletters have always been edited very well. People expect good editing in published works. The biggest mistake that indie authors make is to publish without editing. I helped a fellow with a very good story edit his book last year and it took me nine months, part-time, of struggle to get it correct.
As for word count, I'm not sure what your problem is. There are short stories, novellas, novels, and series, but no limit to length of written work except to meet certain commercial and contest publishing requirements… Not writing requirements for personal publishing.

Some very good points about self-publishing. But your horrors are not mine. While my work required that I wrote well, I never had to try to make money and still don't. Like you, I found out about editing when I trusted a publisher to edit my first two books. He either didn't or did a very poor job. I also learned very early when I tried to promote my first book to a newsgroup, they punished me by sending me a program that destroyed my email.
Two old adages apply: don't put your light under a cover and the cream will rise to the top.
