I think you left out SEATO, but that was probably by choice.
I think the tipping point would be the use of tactical nuclear weapons trying to intimidate Ukraine into absolute surrender. About every generation, there is a war between Israel and the Palestinians. This one appears to be an attempt to totally defeat, not only Hamas, but the Palestinian people in Gaza and put the fear in those in the West Bank and surrounding countries.
But given another generation within 20 years, the Palestinians could come back with a vengeance and trigger World War III in the Middle East.

Your article is very informative, although it can be found in other sources. And, the small print and dense paragraphs without breaks made it difficult for me to read.
I agree, the two state solution is not working there and is also a microcosm for other countries close together with burgeoning populations that continually cause tension over the land and ideologies that are long obsolete but still practiced creating hatred.
The only solution I see is for a single government and equality for all the people. That may be impossible, but it looks like Israel has the upper hand. But Israel is isolated by being surrounded by Moslem countries that have land, power and wealth. In the region, they are greatly outnumbered.
Should the United States continue to support Israel? I don't think so. But with the monetary power of Jewish people in the United States and their control over parts of the government, will probably never allow the US to separate ourselves from that thousands of years old conflict that never gets better.

I can't say that I "feel your pain," because I am lily white blue-eyed blonde northern European for 90% of origin although there is some African blood in me from New England whalers a couple of centuries ago.
Most psychologists know that dark (black--like in the cloak of night) is bad and
light (white--like in the reveal of bright sunlight) is good. Something that is culturally beat into us from the time we were born and maybe in our genes where it cannot be behaviorally removed by education.
Psychologists have used a simple experiment with dolls to easily prove that young children will pick a light-skinned doll over a dark skinned doll every time the experiment is tried. Probably why Barbie is such a success in the box office worldwide. But thankfully, there are alternative successes like Black Panther and spinoffs.
During my 33 years at predominantly Afro centered higher education institutions designed to be separate and unequal (largely by funding), I had a lot of time to engage with both Americans with a slave heritage and Africans with a colonial heritage. I found that both had a different perspective on life.
Those that had a slave heritage were still fighting for their freedom from the oppression of both slavery and the Jim Crow attitude that still pervades much of the United States population. While those professors from Africa or students from Africa were much more self-assured and willing to take on both academic and economic challenges that living in the United States entails.
I thought of that comparison quite interesting. But we have always been a melting pot in the United States and I believe that in the future most of us will be blended both by race and ethnic origin. And it will be a good thing.
I believe I understand your frustration about not being able to come to the United States through the legal process. But the quotas that were established in another era are still there and may need to be changed in favor of more equitable way of selecting who can come and who cannot. We can't take in everyone who wishes to come to United States because billions do.

In every male there comes a time when raging hormones began to differentiate women according to their ability to have children… Not necessarily to be a lifelong companion. Your poem describes that primal urge that some men are able to overcome and many are not.
With each new century, women are gradually becoming aware of their power and being included more and more in society, even in societies that have been paternal for nearly forever. I believe our society's survival depends on the equality of genders as we move into the 22nd century from this one.

Stated with pride and with a sense of truth… "I am tropically designed" as well as a willingness to accept the ignorant classifications that come from those who calculate superiority and difference from past indiscretions rather than facing the truth that is known.
All of us Homo sapiens came out of Africa. And since we were "tropically designed" were probably dark of skin. But as we left Africa and moved into more challenging environments where part of the year was without sunlight we lost melatonin to the skin and had to devise technologies to maintain food and warmth through harsh winters. Isolated populations developed isolated characteristics, driven by the circumstances of survival and reproduction with the strongest, and sometimes brutalist, surviving. While all other hominids like Neanderthal, either died out or merged with us.
As much as you have pride in your heritage and I have in mine, I hope the future will have a solid understanding that we are of one race, the human race, and we have, individually, different characteristics, intelligence and skill that we bring to the table. We will all have to work together so the mounting problems that have been created from the time of colonialism and industrialization destroying our earth as we tried to get ahead. We must preserve Africa for the animals as well as humans if we are to survive as a planet.

Your poem is an emotional and very poignant portrayal of the lot of women much of the world.
In United States, this condition is often codependency. The woman, for whatever reason, actually likes to be abused even when hurt badly. However, whenever a woman feels trapped when her relationship turns bad, she can break free and get a court order, a restraining order, that may or may not work, depending nature of her husband's condition. Wife beating is a sickness that needs treatment.
But in Nigeria, I can see this happening very often because women are devalued much more, especially in Muslim regions. I feel badly for those women and your poem drives the problem home for me. A very sad commentary on much of the world in the 21st-century.

As I recall, Nigeria is a land of many tribes, families. Throughout recent history after colonialism, these various tribes have struggled with each other to come to power, politically, primarily to drain the country's vast resources to their pocketbooks. Resulting in the disarray that seems to permeate Nigerian society. Keeping it from moving forward.
I often think with the national government in the North and Muslim, how much that affects Nigeria's overwhelming political troubles. On a positive side, a recent National Geographic article pointed out how Legos is thriving economically as a result of all of the entrepreneurial activity going on there.

I have not attended an African funeral, but I have attended an African wedding. I was amazed at the long speeches given on behalf of the groom by male friends and relatives traveling great distances to give their superlative phrases in long-winded fashion while the goat got colder and tougher.

You have conveyed a great deal with you very well formed words. Providence, however you call it certainly does enter into every life. A few lucky breaks and reach the highest position even if they are sometimes, totally unworthy. In the meantime, those with no brakes working long hours on two jobs and still can't get out of poverty, I looked down upon for being, lazy.
There really is enough wealth in the world to bring everyone out of poverty. The benefits have been quantified into hard arguments spoken softly by the world's economists. But the wealthy who tend to control everything, will have none of it, well they create dynasties of tax dodgers under their welfare trusts to continue to remove wealth from the masses.

I think it's the kind of insecurity, even immaturity, that drives women, and young men, to follow the popular crowd and hope for enhancement of their natural beauty that generally lasts only as long as they understand what good health does for the body.
I have seen tattoos, extended eyelashes, outrageous finger and toenails. Hair extensions attached to nearly bald heads and surgeries to correct what naturally was given. And finally, piercings, like some tribes cherished as their unique identity, but today seem to be announcing something about dealing with the pain, like tattoos.
I love to see a lady who has none of these additions, simply combing her hair the way it was naturally, perhaps a little lipstick, and dressing comfortably without being loud or brash. Designer clothes are no more valuable than ordinary clothes when it comes to a person's personality and attitude.

Hey Joe, I recall the excitement of Christmas of looking at all the neatly wrapped presents under the tree. I wondered what was inside each one. It was a fantastic feeling as I opened each surprise that was intended for me. Now my excitement is spent at home decorating the front yard for others to see. My hope is to bring a smile to a family or a young child when they see the lights all glowing at night. Perhaps they are smiling and thinking, "These Christmas lights are glowing bright and colors are flickering in the dark especially for me!"

You put the fear of God in that snake! Seriously, snakes are very beneficial to the environment and mostly want to go about their business of eating vermin like small rodents and bugs. Of course, if the snake is poisonous or a very large constrictor, it is probably best to remove it from the neighborhood of people rather than killing it. If you have to kill a snake, just cut off its head with mercy. I would not burn a snake because it will suffer like a human being burned.

Michio Kaku has predicted that population will be controlled by young people moving to the city and having fewer children as a result of the limited opportunities for bearing children there. Cities, like Lagos, become more organized and operate more fairly as time moves on like Singapore, because wealth created in the city changes the city to a higher level of experience. By the same token, the countryside of Nigeria, returning to the wild, will once again produce wealth for Nigerian cities and the rest of Africa.
Certainly, many will die in the process as you have written in your poem. But hasn't that always been true? Part of the problem is that so many are living, consuming, and making things miserable because of their overuse of the available resources.

A really sad state of affairs. I feel the same way about your country's fate, like many in Africa, overwhelmed with so many priorities, misplaced. I must say that my encounter with two Nigerians at our local university was very positive. One young man, who rose from a tiny village in bare feet, was my graduate assistant, but continued on and now has his own legal firm. Another, young lady studying for her MBA, has become a caregiver, something she learned from helping me while she was my graduate assistant.
