Very well written and remembered. It seems as though you must of had a diary of daily events right in such detail, everything that happened after Zach's death. I can see how it would be therapeutic for you.
Fortunately, while I've had grandparents die of cancer and my twin brother lost his wife in a tragic accident last year, I have not experienced the kind of grief you describe so well. The worst I have felt is when my dog died after being attacked by a much larger dog and I was helpless to help him. The story that I posted here about Jazz's death was more my guilt for not helping him, than grief over his loss.

I noticed the Philadelphia flower show is underway even though the East Coast is still experiencing winter storms. Our geranium, after going dormant for a while, has been growing since January and is now lush and blooming profusely. Many weeds are growing in the lawn, their tiny flowers the foretelling of the April wildflower extravaganza to come.
It's never too soon for spring!

Your article points out the problem that most religions, not only Christianity have, and that is intolerance of those with values or beliefs that are different from our own. it generally takes education and experience to realize that all humans are more similar than different. Once we put differences aside, many problems go away. Religions often put up barriers to allowing differences to exist without conflict.
It is interesting that the people that embody Christ the most, like Gandhi, and with some difficulty, Martin Luther King, Mother Teresa, John Lennon and Nelson Mandela, also with some difficulty, are often thought to be outsiders of religious society.
