Yes, very well written and so understandable that makes it great poetry of the very tragic circumstance. Especially about how the doctors believed your father and I you.
I've tried to tell those folks that seem stuck with the "good old days" that they forget parts like this. If you are brought to the hospital today in such a condition, your parents would be immediately arrested.
I have suffered a bit in my life, and we were very poor when I was a child. But we always had good food and my parents took very good care of me and understood every frailty that I had. I do remember feeling sorry for a classmate who had no father and wet the bed.

I like the detached air that surrounds the poem. There is no whimpering or self-pity, just the awful, grim facts, punctuated with that forward movement and those glorious rhymes. I have also written a little about children and childhood, so this poem on a traumatic experience in childhood is very interesting to me. Keep up the good work. John
