A very well written and informative article about Mumbai. I wanted to go to India, but my one trip around the world only took me to see the family of friends in Karachi and Dacca. So I got flavor of India without going to centers like Mumbai and Delhi.
I have a lifelong friend who I roomed with graduate school. He was from Bombay before it was Mumbai. All of his family left India in the 1960s. Although he has visited several times, he has told me that he could not return and is retired in the US.
I also befriended two MBA students of mine from Mumbai who were married and often spoke about going to the Taj Mahal while students, sometimes describing disco dancing.

Thanks to Britain's massive colonial ambition, English is the business language of the world. India is indeed fortunate or being a colony of Britain allowing the populace to learn English in the first place, setback when the government stopped teaching English in the schools, I believe, in 1948.
Your program appears to be one of those grassroots efforts to help bring people of poverty into the mainstream of world life. In this case, the English Internet. India has already made great strides by establishing a second Silicon Valley in Bangalore and raising the economic status of so many Indian people through renewed education and Internet involvement.
Kudus to you as a volunteer and the founder, Paul Peres of the Ranjan Project for helping to level the playing field for the disadvantaged of India.

I really enjoyed this bit of Indian history and its British heritage of a changing club that has kept up with the times. Initially for the privileged, and probably still so, you are right in stating that clubs like this provide an oasis from the turbulent city.
I had to chuckle at that note about Winston Churchill leaving a debt there.

I really enjoyed watching the BBC series on the world's great railways which aired in India in the 80's.The series was well-produced with excellent photography.I also felt there was a good spiritual analogy there.

I like the description of the railroad and the journey, but not the interjection of God in the summation of the article.
