I tried to enjoy this book. I really and truly did. However, there were so many distractions, I was unable to.
One of the things that authors are told, is "Show, don't tell." However, from the beginning of the novel, it felt as though I was being 'told' what was happening, what I was seeing, and essentially what to feel.
Furthermore, I am by no means a prudish person and freely curse with reckless abandon. However, this book managed to take it to the next level and most of the profanity seemed to be more along the lines of a 13-year old who just learned how to use the f-word, rather than using the vulgarity to spice things up.
I tried to enjoy the book, without these nagging things distracting me, however the plot was difficult to keep up with and understand exactly what was going on.
Overall, I think that the book has good bones. It just needs to be polished for a significant amount of time. It almost felt like reading a first-draft of a story that someone was proud of. It's something worth being proud of, but it still needs a little more work.
