I enjoy commenting on new books but don't generally read them unless they are serialized here. I have little time to read in order for me to write my own books.
From all indications, this is a true story that you experienced, assuming that the names were changed. The Internet can be a deceptive place where those posting are actually not what they seem. But it's always been true that it takes a while to get to know a person. In the case of my own three year marriage, she was not a pathological liar and not greedy, although mistaken, first about, who I was, leading to the eventual divorce, and then about one of our assets, the house we purchase together that I paid the payments on. Recently, two of my caregivers, one who stayed with me for a year and a half, but began to change drastically just before she quit when I should have fired her earlier, both turned out not to be what they originally presented themselves to be.
You write very well and it's easy to follow the course of your discussions that are in such detail that there may be some fiction there because you didn't write, "based on a true story." For some people interested in bad relationships, I think they would love to read what you or your character went through. Over 300 pages reads like a long story. The clues in this particular excerpt should have told Charlie it was time to bail.
