Very well written and down to earth, nitty-gritty of what it's like to be in the city of uncertain death. I really like the detail you written between describing the environment and the conversation. I only regret that I don't know all the military acronyms, but if I read the entire book I would track them down so that I know the jargon better.
You clearly describe the periods of boredom and waiting in the heat and then the periods of naked terror when the shed hits the fan and the noise of war is almost worse than the outcome, so often nowadays on scene at the distance as heavy armament does the job that used to be done up close and personal.
Great job, soldier. My uncle was in the 102nd Airborne in World War II. He didn't talk much about what happened, but he was affected, because he divorced during the war and later, leaving five children from his two marriages, disappeared with another woman and was only discovered years after he died and what his fake identity was.
