Based on your poem alone, with all of its emotion expressed, there was something as yet not revealed that caused the unwanted schism and apparent silence about it.
It could just be two people were not meant to be together. Silence can also just be "the silent treatment" often employed by the side that is hurt by a bad relationship and no longer wishes to be involved in endless discussion that goes nowhere in solving the real problem.

Yes, the silence of being without a mother, especially for a child, must be terrible.
My mother has always been with me. And, although she suffers many ailments, she still calls me on her hearing -assisted telephone every Monday to tell me how she is doing and laughs gently about little things at 90 years of age. I only wish that everyone could have a mother like mine has been.

I damn well relate. I was given away when I was born to a cruel domineering female. I, by luck, found her name through a voter's registration form. She, of of course is long dead and I don't care to track down relatives, I needed to speak to her.
