A sad sad tale I tell,about a girl I once knew. (Short Story) - 12/24/2015 7:05:12 AM
Having conquered the first part, escaping a bad situation, I will suggest something for the second part.
In order for us to love others, we have to love ourselves first. That usually takes some time living alone without interacting with others so we can find out who we are and can become truly independent--not requiring anyone else in our lives. And then, a magic thing happens. Others see our value and come in to our lives easily.

Your poem seems to mirror the psyche of a battered woman who grapples with the decision to leave her abuser, and finally has the courage to do so. Sadly, some put all their eggs in one basket, thinking a man is the panacea to turning their life around. While the ending of your poem is pessimistic, cheers to those women who become empowered and assert themselves, no longer falling prey to a charming bully.

An interesting story full of coincidence. It must be the London branch of the Washington Post, because your language is clearly UK.
